Book is NOT required! and no homework! Matson is awesome and this class was total cake; I showed up maybe half the time but so long as you get the notes and attend the study session he sets up before each exam, you're golden.

Comment:

Took him for West Civ 1. Not a bad teacher but for me (someone who does not like history) the class was very boring. He taught effectively and made every effort to let people know exactly what was expected of them and what was on the exams. I would recommend him and the class to anyone especially if you LIKE history. He gets two thumbs up from me!

I love him! Dr. Matson was the kindest, most knowledgeable professor I had at UPJ in 4 years. He curves if you deserve it and attend class. He is very interactive, not dry at all. He loves what he does and is ALWAYS willing to help! Take him. You won't be disappointed!

He is the reason I changed my major to History. Real nice guy that makes his classes fun. Easy to get a long with and his exams aren't too hard as long and you attend class. Took him for 2 classes so far and already have him for 2 classes next semester. I highly recommend him.

One of the best professors I have ever had. Really knew history and made it extremely enjoyable to learn. Showed slides and brought in historical objects, which kept things interesting. Tests were fine if you study, and attending class definitely helped my grade out!

Most interesting history prof at UPJ. Brings his life experiences into the classroom. Presents the material in an easy-to-learn fashion. Helpful with questions. Available for help. Exams cover mostly class material, take notes on everything and study. Fun teacher to be around. Funny but professional. Loves history, very well at teaching his course!

He's a cool guy. Really into history, he's intense. He shows slideshows and lectures, but it's cool. He's funny because he's so into history...like I don't think you'll ever meet anyone so in love with the subject. Definitely reccomend this class. Final isn't cummulitive.

I took HIST 0610 and 0620. I thought 0610 was more interresting, but both were excellent. Dr. Matson is a wealth of information and he's practical and funny. His slide shows of pictures that he's taken are great; I wanted to go visit the places myself! I am not a history fan, but I loved his lectures!

I've had him for 4 classes now and I'd love to take 4 more. Dr. Matson is without a doubt the best professor I've ever had. I can't think of anyone who knows more about history than him. On top of that he is great at teaching it.

I had trouble thinking of a way to compliment Dr. Matson properly. The best I can do is tell you that I entered UPJ as SecED. Science major. I had U.S. since 1877 my first term. 4 years later, I had a SecEd. History degree. Had him for 9 classes. Any Secondary Ed. Social Studies major should be required to take him. How history should be taught
