I'm an engineering major with no interest in literature but his intelligence and enthusiasm made me love this class. There is a lot of reading to keep up with, but his lectures make it all worth it. In class unit exams (drama, poetry, and fiction) with short answer and essay questions &2 out of class essays.

Metzger is a brilliant teacher and VERY intelligent, he went to Yale for heaven sakes! Meanwhile, this class will challenge you like you've never been challenged before in an English class. If you don't like to read or write essays, don't even bother signing up for the class because you will drown. But Metzger will go out of his way to help ANYONE.

English Shakespeare. Disappointing class. Prof's literary interpretations seem to be somewhere just outside Hale-Bop - expects you to guess what they are and recite them back. Misquotes text. Redirects other opinions toward his own via faulty logic. Unrealistic exam expectations.

He teaches in the style of a university english professor. He is a tough cookie in his quizzes and tests but that is because i wasn't used to that in any of my english classes except for english 101. If you speak to him in his office hourse, he is super nice and wants to help in any form to clarify the material. I truly will miss that man.

Still utilize skills & talents Metzger fostered in my learning and writing. Completely disagree with statements of agreeing with his pov, when different opinions were brought up he always said "interesting", & asked for support . I should know, I have taken 4 of his courses! Makes you think in different ways and expand pushes you to your best!

Professor Metzger is a very intelligent man who cares about teaching. He wants his students to learn and do well so he holds them to a standard that accomplishes those objectives. I learned a lot in English 103 and I really enjoyed his class. Slackers won't survive there, beware.

Dr. Metzger taught me how to write, and now I am ready for UCLA. This is a big deal for me because when I came to his class I was a total ESL student, but with his help I've gotten better at writing essays and term papers. He is an intelligent, easy-going professor. I highly recommend anyone with writing problems to take a class with Dr. Metzger.
