He's a great professor, I didn't take calculus before his class and learned a lot. There are three exams, and he posts old exams online. The final replaces your lowest test score. Very strict grading rubric he doesn't round up for anybody. I was 1 point short of an A. There's quizzes every week but you get to drop your 2 worst. Take this course!

Murphy was a pretty good teacher. I found that the kids who had taken calc in high school all got really good grades, but those who didn't had trouble. Very straightforward grading...three tests and a final, if you like your grade before the final you don't have to take it bc he takes the best 3/4.

I liked prof. Murphy. He answered any questions we had. His tests were really easy and he determined your grade based on the best 3 out 4 tests, gave quizzes and homework but they did not count towards your grade, just practice. This was a really informative math class, I would recommend him to anyone!

Great teacher. This class was a little dificult for me, but I suck at math. Your entire grade is based on 3 out of 4 exams. That is good as long as you do good on those tests. Some sort of extra credit would have been nice, but if you have to take a sucky class, this is the one to take.

I can't say I agree with most of these comments, I took him because I read them and he is very helpful and wants you to do good but his tests are a lot harder than the homework and on half the tests he doesn't let you use a calculator. If you're good in math I'm sure you'll be fine but if math is not your thing...find another class.

He is an excellent professor. He will explain problems over and over again. If you go to most classes, you will do very well. There's homework and quizzes, but neither count toward your grade. But test questions come almost verbatim from the hw and quizzes. Also, if you're happy with your grade after 3 exams, you can exempt from the final.

Dont take any other teacher... go for murphy even if its 2 AM on a saturday. If you do well on tests you dont have to take exam. If you have one bad test he will replace it. You do need to know whats going on to do well though so if you suck at math you may not get that A. But murphy will do anything in his power for you to get the A.

Professor Murphy was the best Professor that I've had in two years..He works with you even if you fail every test (this was my first math class in 2yrs.) Failing..pass the final with at least a 100 it's worth 120. His grading sytem is based on points. He's GREAT! GREAT GREAT GREAT!

Comment:

A very good guy who wants to make sure that students understand (will go over and over something if there are questions). Has review sessions and realizes that you could be having a bad day on a test date, so he doesn't let that count against you harshly. Instead, you can replace it with the final, or end up not having to take the final at all!
