I have taken Owens for both FGB 386 and RIL 266 and he is a great prof. He is fairly difficult, but if you try, you will do well. I learned a lot in both his classes. He is a really great guy who knows his stuff. Don't have a biased view of him from other students' comments, he is a intelligent prof who will teach you a lot.

Monotonous and boring! Really curves tests scores, though. Some of the questions on the test he did not cover!!

This is the worst class I have ever taken. He writes the book and it is all his opinion. None of the info will ever be used in real life, because it is all made up by him. He is worthless and boring. He gives huge curves but you don't learn anything.

Dr. Owens in Very knowledgable and one if the nicest professors i've ever had. The class is hard just because of the material. If you really pay attention you will learn a lot!

Terrible class. Teaches from a book that he made, and it's all his opinion on why his form of accounting is better than historical cost accounting, even though nobody uses his form. Tests are 10 question essays and cover a ton of material so they are extremely hard. I would avoid this one if you can.

Comment:
Owens teaches this subject on the basis that historical cost based accounting is arbitrary and hard to interpret. The problem is...he is arbitrary, hard to interpret, and boring. He pulls questions out of nowhere and puts them into a 10 question essay exam. Your goal has to be a 60% so he can curve it to at least a high C or low B. Good luck!

This class was absolutely retarted...and I learned very little from it. His tests are essay/short answer and alot of the questions are based on his opinions. He is a nice guy, but his class is so hard to do well in...at least he usually gives a 20% curve, but it is not that good when the class average after the curve is around 70 - 75.

Owens is a good guy and will curve the tests ALOT. He is very boring. Read the book and attend class the week before a test to figure problems and you will do fine

Tough class, but he posts his chapter by chapter notes on EReserve so you can print them off. Very insightful about real estate because he real world experience. Overall a good class. He curves the test ALOT! Sometimes as much as 25 poitns (percentage points!) Trust me he is way better than Nelson.

He teaches his philosophy on accounting. It is very boring and could be difficlult if he did not curve the test so much. If it is possible to avoid this one I would. Very Boring and Nothing gained by taking the class, other than it being out of the way.

Nice guy, tests are difficult, but he does curve A LOT if needed. If you pay attention in class you will do ok on tests. Essay q's and a few MC. Works hard to get you through class. If you read book you will do ok.

He wrote the book that includes a ficticious Q&A about cash-based financial analysis. It's a real trip watching him ask himself Qs and answer himself in the 3rd person. His tests suck! It's no wonder everybody cheats.

His tests suck. I was getting Ds on most the test but he curves heavily and i ended up with a low B. The more I studied the worse I did. He's a real nice guy though. I went in to tutor with him(didn't help though).

EXTREMELY hard class. He lectures sentence-by-sentence from the book, which was written for graduate level work. It's best served as a paperweight. All tests had to be curved 20-30 points to have a C average.
