If you take the time to invest in the class and listen to her instructions you will hands down learn how to write. She demands a lot but she is willing to help, you just have to ask. I would recommend her over any other professor for writing the school has to offer.

She is the most difficult grader I have had during all of my educational career. That being said, I can write a high quality office memo or a brief in about 4-6 hours and know how to identify and rank the relevant issues for discussion. I was an English major, and I didn't know how to write until Ruhtenberg taught me. GREAT TEACHER.

Professor Ruhtenberg is a tough grader, and it seems as if she doesn't explain anything before the assignments are due, but by the time the year is over, if you look back on where you were at the beginning you'll be startled to see the improvement in your writing quality.

Tough, but you will learn a lot in her class. I became a much better writer as a result.

After meeting with her 2x to go over my 3rd & 5th(last) revision drafts on my final paper, I was sure I had finally found what she wanted. I was wrong, failed the paper, and as a result the class. Her only vague feedback in both meetings was that I was "on the right track". My own advice I wish I took, is suck up from day 1 and hope it helps.

Prof. Ruhtenberg is the antithesis of helpful. Her grading method is "pick out the secret points on my hidden checklist." Excellent writers traditionally do not fare well in her class, which is ridiculous.

Very frustrating class. Don't expect her to be helpful in conferences. Will give you conflicting information or even misinformation. Tough grader.

An extremely nice woman but not the best teacher. She's been teaching a long time and I've come to find that her experience is quite a bit outdated when compared to the real world practice of today. Also, she is the hardest without a doubt of LARC graders. She isn't very helpful, especially compared to other LARC profs who spoon feed u evrything
