Historically, DS is the one of the most difficult subjects aside from fin350;get ready to put in work! He teaches sometimes, add his class FAST. 5 excel hw step-by-step process, EZ. 2 mt 1 final open Everything. PRNT SLD TAKE NOTES!

I don't recommend taking him if you're taking 4 other classes. It's stressful. He teaches super fast so, make you sure you write fast. 2 midterms, 1 cumulative final, 5 excel assignments, & hw for extra credit. Open book, open notes. Things on the exams are the opposite of his in-class notes. Easy if math comes easy to you. If not, study study!!!!!

Fairly standard class. 3 tests, open book and notes. Make thorough cheatsheets and the tests will be easy. Barely attended class and got A's on first 2 tests, about to take last. Robert can be tough and a little rude at times, but he cares deeply about the subject and teaching it. Overall, he's a great teacher. Lots of (mostly easy) math, though.

I would not take his class again. 2 midterms 1 final. Excel Hw (5) and EC. Our class average was a 30% on our second midterm. His tests are 5 questions but hard. He does not give a study guide. a quarter of the class dropped with a W because they wouldn't make it. Attendance not mandatory. If your a quick learner, this class is good for you.

Saltzman is a good professor for those who can keep up at a fast pace. He's passionate about DS. Homework is 40 points extra credit, recommend doing it. Final is cumulative, tests are hard. Open book, open notes,5 excel HW. Good teacher but doesn't understand than not everyone is a fast learner or a good test taker. Wish he was more approachable.

By far, the worst professor I have ever come across at SF State. He is beyond rude, goes through the material in class very fast & does NOT I repeat does NOT clarify anything, you're basically set to learn the material on your own. When students ask questions, he tends to get annoyed. Exams are extremely difficult, doesn't care at all for students

I didn't really use the text book, but I used the online resources a ton. Do the extra credit, it's the best practice for a test you can have. This is a challenging class, you have to work to learn stuff. Saltzman is a gem and I wish all teachers had his level of enthusiasm and care for students to understand the material.

Great professor, really loves what he does and cares about his students. Only tip is be careful on his exams, they're open note and open book but can take awhile, he won't give you more time to finish either.

This is my favorite professor ever. His lecture was amazing and very clear. If you do the problems he suggested, you will understand everything. For the problem sets(not grading), he gave answers in excel sheets. 5 excel assignments, 3 exams, and extra credits. I wish he could teach other DS classes, cuz I will definitely take his other classes.

Saltzman is an amazing professor. I'm not the best at math, but I earned an A- in DS 412. Extra credit problems earn up to a whole letter grade. Great lectures and he cares about how his students do. Accessible office hours. Very clear & structured course. Print out his slides and take notes on them! Tests are open book, open note. I recommend him!

Saltzman is one of the best statistics professors on campus! His lectures are very organized and he went over all test questions and gave them back quickly. You have to purchase an online textbook and all homework questions are counted as extra credit.

He is great at emailing back. Very informative and intellectual. DS is not an easy subject, and he makes it very easy

Although the textbook is very useful, if you can't self-teach attendance is necessary to pass. Great lectures, material seems very comprehensible during the lecture. Five graded assignments, all other homework is "suggested". If you attend and do most of the optional homework you should pass easily, but otherwise this can be a very tough course.

Very dedicated, and incredibly smart. I made the mistake of not going to every class, which affected my grade in the end. But with that I can still say he is an amazing teacher and you can pass if you go to every class.

Best professor at SFSU!! He truly cares about his students and does all that he can to make sure they understand the subject and pass the class! There are 5 excel assignments and 3 exams which are open book & notes. If you go to class & take good notes you don't even need to buy the book! Even though attendance is not mandatory going to class = A

Absolutely stay on top of the extra credit online problems and don't wait till last minute! Those will def help you on the test! Exam study guide really helps!

This course requires a lot of attention. Attendance isn't mandatory, but recommended. In Class he explains everything thoroughly, but throws a few curve balls on the exams. 2 midterms, 1 Cumulative Final, 5 Excel assignments. He also offers 50 XC points.
