While the conservatory choir does have an excellent sound, it is achieved by tactics of embarrassment, fear, and anger. This is supposed to be a professional choir environment but for a non-performance major it demands more work than I feel I can give. He expects this to be priority 1, and mine is my major, not this.

One of the worst professors I've every had. I had him for Adv. Choral Conducting. He rarely showed up for class and didn't have the courtesy to tell us when he would be absent. He had us watch videos of Instrumental (this was a choral class) conducting and write papers on them. Could not stop talking about the Grammy he won years ago. Big Ego.

Amazing musician, conductor, teacher. Not only does he inspire you with his great music selections, but with the wisdom he shares in class. He only accepts the best, so expect to work in this class. The best teacher I've ever had!

Comment:
One of the greatest conductors in our time, and truly a privelige to even speak with. This man is a musical genious and knows the sound he wants. He may be harsh at points, but he gets the sound that is needed and afterall he has won two grammys and studied with Nadia Boulanger!

The most inspiring teacher I've ever had. Singing in his choir is both challenging and exhilarating. I will never treasure any choral experience as much as I have treasured my time in Conservatory Choir. Thank you, Mr. Shafer, for everything.
