I really liked Professor Sheppard. He is clear and helpful (paying attention is key). If you think this is an easy A class, you are mistaken. I recommend taking if you have an interest in cinema and you like to write. If not, this is not the class for you. If you do your part, you will do well and you will definitely get something out of it.

Took CINE 100, 102 and 103 from Prof. Sheppard in the late 80s and later in 2000. Inspired a deep interest in film that I still have today. His lectures are engaging & inspiring. Be prepared! It helps to familiarize yourself w/film basics & how to analyze film before the course starts. Be on time, don't miss class, turn in essays & you'll do well!

Very wierd movies. You cant drink water or eat in the class. I did everything and tried as hard as i could and barely passed with a C. And he is very unapproachable. Don't take his class. Period.

He's honestly a really great teacher who knows a lot about cinema. He's strict in that he doesnt allow for slackers or distractions but he's always nice and usually funny as well. The journals are not hard as long as you have an understanding of writing and are capable of thinking critically. 1 page, thoughtful answers is all he asks.

very intimidating!! you must read entire text book to pass exams. essays are super easy but the exams are the most important. so if you dont like to read DO NOT take this class. also, i never felt comfortable asking him a question.

Clear with what he wants, strict with (very reasonable) policies, and he shows great enthusiasm for what he does. Journals are easy - 250 word max, this is COLLEGE, this shouldn't be difficult - and the tests are mostly from the book. The one you buy, that is required. If you buy it, why not use it? Great professor, will probably take more classes.

If you are someone who is interested in watching movies and learning what it takes to make movies TAKE TAKE TAKE this class. Sheppard is very knowledgeable when it comes to studying film and teaching to others. The movies he shows can be wierd but it's a really cool experience. Plus his class is super easy.

Harsh teacher. Essays are graded extremely hard for a cinema class. Tests are okay if you are dedicated to reading the book. No food and water in class, NO phones. And will check if you use outside sources for an essay (like a website with the plot) and fail you. Dry humor, not a bad guy, just brutal.

Not a very easy class. A lot of work involved. Tests really aren't that bad because its a lot of True or false questions. The journals are a pain. He is a really strict grader and he pretty much demands perfection. Not a bad guy and I thought he was a pretty good theacher. You just need to give your best effort on the journals.

He is very strict. He gives no notes on the reading which is what the test consist of except for the 5 EC questions he gives. All he discusses is the movies w/ great passion. I am an A student and had to work very very hard to get a B. I was actually surprised that I got that. He DOESN'T teach this class like a 100 class more like a 400. RUN FAST!

Prof. Sheppard spends the first 2-3 weeks weeding out those students who do not take the class seriously. When the films begin, he proves to be serious about his subject but with a great sense of humor. Do the work/ reading, regularly attend and the class is fairly easy. There is a lot of writing involved, but he helps each step of the way.

Sheppard is a great teacher. Tests are easy if you spend a couple hours studying, always has extra credit on the tests from his lecture, also easy. Movies are interesting. Just make sure you get the facts CORRECT on your journals. He is very picky about movie quotes, even if they are slightly off. Just remember to be DIRECT, and you'll ace it.

Great teacher. Very smart man, his lectures keep you interested. He IS big on attendance, and turning things in on time. I never approached him for help, but his Essay prompts and other instructions are pretty clear. You do have to do a lot of writing, and come up with your own ideas for best marks, so it is not an easy class. Highly recommended.
