I went to go register for the class with him and found out he was gone!! I was so sad. He was a great Prof. and a great Friend! I don't think you can get much better. I would recommend finding him and bringing him back because U of M won't e the same with out him!!!

It is such a shame to see a man with so much talent and so much patience to offer a symphony to be dismissed. He truly cared 100% about his students and the symphony,eventually getting us all to strive for a code of excellence. The music department is in for a severe rude awakening. Prof. Southard was the best thing in the dept.

This professor works very hard at what he does and unfortunately most of the class isn't willing to put the time in to create a successful performance. The complainers simply aren't willing to practice, making everyone's experience needlessly difficult.

Not very happy with how he treats his musicians... i quit because i felt like each day i went to class was the worst day of my life. He makes it seem like you can't do a good job on anything, and even though i love music, i had to quit to save my self-esteem for a greater good.

Though people think he's a great teacher, it's different when you put him infront of a band. He's over-demanding as wells as rude. If he were to not let his emotions get in the way of his conducting, he would make a great conductor. If your willing to endure a number of verbal shots, have fun.

Great job for a FA credit. He was really helpful and didn't want you to fail. He talks fast though. It would be better if he only had 2 concert reports, instead of 3. His hair is quite puffy, if you are taking him for the "hotness" factor.
