Its hard for me to rate him based on this class because basically, he didnt teach. So Ill just rate the class. The lecture part, ran by Robert, was sometimes interesting but also sometimes boring. Its only guest speakers and they werent always up to par. The discussion part (with a TA) is better but reading the book was annoying.

Dr. Stewart brings in guest speakers, most of which are super interesting. He is the president of Scripps, so he's busy. I get why he doesn't actually lecture himself which I don't mind. He is a great guy but better as the J-school president than professor. Most work done in discussion with TAs. This is a weed-out class, it isn't meant to be fun.

Super great guy, but class can get pretty dry since it is just speakers for the most part. Attendance is mandatory, AND MAKE SURE YOU PAY ATTENTION TO THE SPEAKERS

Dr. Stewart is a great guy and overall, good professor. He brings in journalists and individuals working in public relations to help students decide which track of journalism they would like to follow. He doesn't teach a lot, but that's because the course set up isn't set for that. He is also very accessible outside of class and extremely nice guy.

He did not teach me a thing. His lecture is basically him bringing in guest speakers. He did not once gotten up in front of the class and taught us anything about Journalism. His TA has taught me everything I've learned.

Pretty bad. Never actually lectured himself, relied only on guest speakers who weren't actually that interesting or well prepared. Hated this class.

This class is not as hard as some people make it out to be, but it is not well put together. Many of our guest speakers were unprepared and pretty boring. The exams are on past quizzes you take in the small section class, but there are also questions about the speakers so take notes! As long as your LC works together the class is not too bad.

Dr. Stewart is easygoing, kind, and knowledgeable. This course largely consists of guest lectures (most of whom were interesting). The exams and quizzes are incredibly easy. You would need to actively try to get lower than a B in this class.

Dr. Stewart is a great and very intelligent man but the class does not display that. We had guest speakers every week and although some were great, most were not. Beyond this the other half of the class is a small section with your TA. These classes are much better but there is very little feedback on how to improve your grade.

Dr. Stewart is an extremely intelligent man and has a plethora of knowledge regarding journalism but the class he teaches displays little of that. Instead of teaching Dr. Stewart reverts to guest speakers and TA's who are there simply to administer weekly chapter quizzes over trivial/nitpicky details. Exams are easy, based off previous quizzes.

Prof Stewart doesn't teach much, but has guest speakers and TAs lead the discussion sections. This class isn't really as hard as others make it out to be, but isn't an easy class either. He's a cool guy and he will help no problem with any journalism question you might have. A tip to make the class easier: take the quizzes from the text's website.

Definitely didn't prepare me for legitimate journalism. The course essentially touches on history, ethics, and simple concepts. The guest speakers were (for the most part) very engaging and interesting. Professor Stewart doesn't lecture himself, but instead he has T/A's who still don't cover the material essential to his super tough exams.

Dr. Stewart never teaches. The guest speakers he brings in are really interesting though. BUT the tests are extremely difficult unless you know nit-picky facts from the readings and lectures. He added a discussion class component this year which was supposed to help but really didn't. All J School students have to take it. Just deal with it. :/

Required for all freshman journalism students. Basically feels like a long experiment of "how many can we get to change major". Tests are crazy tough, but he does curve them. The midterm was 100 points, and curved 15 (no one got higher than a B before curve). Tests often contain small details from the book. He lectured once, rest are guest speakers

Not sure why this class is set up the way it is; it has deterred from rather than inspired students to continue to with Journalism. Really displeased with this class because of the inaccessibility of Dr. Stewart and the uselessness of the discussion sections.

Bob Stewart's class is great if you're trying to figure out what you want to do in the Journalism field. A lot of people complain because it's a guest lecture class, but the people that come to speak all have really successful careers and their experience helped me decide what I want to do with my degree!

This class (J1010) is essentially different speakers coming in and talking to the class. I think Stewart only lectured once, and it was not memorable. Only a few tests (all multiple choice) and the content that needed to be known for them was rarely discussed in class. Prof. Stewart is nice, but doesn't teach much.

He doesn't do anything at all except introduce our speakers, occasionally ask them questions, and occasionally take photos. And tweet. My god, he loves his Twitter. Exams are over a textbook that he never uses, mentions, or anything. He just tells you to read 7 or 8 chapters for the midterm and 7 or 8 for the final. The exams are terribly written.

This class made me want to drop out of my major. He only has guest speakers. Read the book and take quizzes on the book's website in order to pass the exams. He doesn't hardly talk to the class and didn't show up for both the exams we took. It was so frustrating and stressful, but if you tough it out you'll be fine.

This course was nothing like I expected. I am a Journalism major so I expected my 1st Journalism class to help me become a stronger writer. All this class was, was speakers coming into our class everyday and were usually not to interesting. Everyday we walked into class, listened to someone talk at us for an hour and 20 minutes. Very disappointing
