He was a very enjoyable professor. The only homework for his class was reading and studying for the tests. Highly suggest you do not get behind in reading. I felt this class was very organized, I did not ever come to class wondering if I missed anything that needed to be turned in, which I like. Be ready to read and take notes to do well.

I love Sullivan but his class can be rough. He does tend to go off topic which is fun in class but not for the test. He is one of the smartest professors here. His grading does kind of suck because he only goes off a research paper and a test but I still love him. If you're into politics, take him because of the political jokes he tells.

Comment:

Took this class as a Hybrid Mini-Term class. I loved it because I met for two Saturdays from 8am-2pm and did random homework during the week. Do not take Sullivan as a semester-long course because he can be inconsistent. The book is pointless. The Quizzes and Tests are not even from the book or anything! Pretty annoying.

Dr. Sullivan was my advisor and by far my favourite professor at DBU. He doesn't teach directly from the textbook, but it is definitely important that you read the book. He also provides review guides for the tests which are actually really helpful. The answers are not directly out of the book, he expects you to understand and apply concepts.

I had already taken this course before at another school and failed. Sullivan was very clear of what he wanted. I actually really enjoyed his lectures and group projects. I totally recommend.

You can tell that he really cares about the students and wants them to learn and succeed. However, I wouldn't take his class in your first year because he can be a little bit confusing.

This professor is wierd and to me seemed unconcerned about his students. He encourages you not to read your text book because he says it's a waste of time. His test are ambiguous and hard to study for. Don't take his class. This guy sucks as a professor. I don't see how he got the job, really!

The most irresponsible teacher on campus. He never responded to e-mails. I set up about... 20 appointments with him, and out of those 20, he was only "available" for... 5. at most!! he was always "busy" I don't know with what? It was very frustrating, he did not care about his students, nor did he care about them learning or passing his class!!!

Nice guy. Funny too, even at 8:00 AM. But though the material covered in class was interesting, it was RARELY relevent to the exams. Our class had a LOT of trouble with questions on the exam that had NEVER been addressed in class or in the text. Very frustrating experience for me. Would advise taking someone else! (goodyear!!)

Don't take him unless you really have to. He is a nice man... but expects a lot from the class. He does not reply emails... he is a last minute kind of guy. He gives all in the last minute. His exams are terrible. His exam review is a waste!

This class has caused me more frustration than any other class I have ever taken. He does not respond to e-mails until it's too late. He gives you a review and then asks questions on tests you've never heard of before that have to do with current events rather than the text book material. My advice is to take notes on EVERYTHING he ever says.

Professor Sullivan treats you like an adult. So whether or not you'll be successful in his class will depend on how you apply yourself. His tests are designed to show whether or not you've completed the reading assignement so be sure to read- he won't coddle you. VERY friendly and easy to understand I highly recommend him :)

Take his course. Just take it. It's worth it just to see his cynicism in action. If you're a right-winger, he'll confirm every political impulse you've ever had, but with a sense of humor. He's too smart to believe in much of anything, although he tries to stick to the (Republican) party line. But too bad about his (yikes!) haircut (yikes!).
