Comment:

Robert Treu changed my life in a way. He believed in my writing, though from where I sit now, it was not that special. His belief kept me committed to school and I went on to an MFA in fiction and a PhD in writing studies. This is all to say, sometimes belief in someone is as important as what you write. I'm professor now and Treu is why.

He's a nice old man. Tends to run off on a tangent for a few minutes multiple times in class. We're behind the class schedule. Very friendly and helpful if you ask. Open to others' interpretations. Old fashioned and behind the times. The grade is based on 3 tests which are just based on writing about a couple given sections of what you read.

I took a lit class with him, and I really enjoyed it. He assigned a lot of reading, but I discovered that if you take notes in class on what he thinks is important about each story, you don't actually have to read them to get an A on the test. The questions are all based on what is discussed in class.

try taking a class with treu beyond gen. eds - you'll be pleasantly surprised. he really does make you think and take chances, and he doesn't judge people on their opinions. i would say he's the best english teacher i've had here... (and also has great taste in music, if you want to get him started on that...).

Dr. Treu is kinda crazy. He talks about the most random topics in class and makes jokes that are sometimes funny and other times not...but he laughs at every one of them.... it's an ok class...but these ratings are way too nice...he's not that awesome

Excellent teacher! He's very funny and caring. THIS is the best review. He respects his students. Sometimes he gets a little weird but it's usually funny. He'll do anything to help you grow. He's very open and a good teacher. He actually made me think, a real rarity at UWL.

this class is graded only on you papers and take home tests. not a lot of effort is needed, but it you are exposed to some interesting books. treu is accomidating if you need extensions on due dates for work. nice guy...

He is eccentric. He is also losing his hearing. He respects the students opinion, I read Hemmingway for the first time, and announced in class, how much Hemmingway sucked and why, he was not offended. If you like to state your opinion, take as many classes with him as you can.
