Roberta genuinely cares about her students. Found a lot of my peers struggled through the course, which baffled me! Roberta is such an understanding person, she's willing to help you no matter what - whether that's clarifying a concept or giving you an extension on a paper. Roberta is wonderful. She's very engaging and puts a ton of energy into teaching. She honestly loves the academic work she does. This is really helpful in a class where the subject matter doesn't totally appeal to me. However, get ready to focus a lot on race and gender, and more race. Sometimes you just want to learn about something new...

I LOVE THIS WOMAN. She is so passionate about what she teaches and is excellent at teaching it. It was a directing class and she brought in professional actors for us to direct. Super enthusiastic, loves it when you speak up, gives clear examples and very easy-going. Gives lots of feed back on assignments and willing to work on it with you after.

WONDERFUL! I took this course almost 5 years ago and I still talk about it. I keep waiting for another class to excite me as much as this one did. She truly cares about what she is doing and is a wonderful, approachable woman.

So enthusiastic! It's impossible to be bored during her class. Her lectures on writing essays were incredibly helpful: I was totally hopeless with essays before I took her class, but because of her I always get a good mark. She's awesome.

Barker is an amazing professor!Her overall helpfulness and concern for the students well being is very rare. Her slides and assignments were very easy to understand and write down in time, and even if you're slow, she posts them on WebCT.As a first year student, I found the classes she held on formal essay writing to be very useful in all classes!

Roberta is very nice, but I would like to say unless the course is required, DO NOT take it out of interest. The material is over-analysed, if you just really like theatre and aren't found of picking things appart to death. Also the class median grade was a c+ which is too low for a writing course.

I am just finished my first year at Dalhousie in Theatre and Roberta had to be my favorite professor this year. She's very easy to approach for questions and always tries to make time for you if you need help. I would recommend this course to anyone who likes to laugh and enjoys theatre.
