At the beginning of the semester, I thought that I had made a mistake by taking Prof Newman; but it turned out to be just the opposite. She is really funny and although she can come off as being a hard-ass she is kind and appreciates people who do the reading and participate in class.

Generally in both CF and SF all you have to do is read and you're usually good. Newman is a great teacher, really cares, lectures are fun and if you're confused about something you can ask her. Not that hard to follow her in class, it can be entertaining but sometimes boring but overall GREAT TEACHER.

Roberta is an amazing lady! She's such an intelligent human being and extremely passionate when she's teaching her students. You'll definitely leave her class feeling like you've learned so much. You must go to her class. She loves students who participate and question the material they're reading. Do the readings and put effort into your papers!

This was the only bad teacher I had at NYU. Sure Newman knows a lot about baseball but grading papers arbitrarily based on whether or not you like someone on a personal level is juvenile. Also, she loves making off-color quips nonstop. She gave me a C- on the final paper and called it a disaster. I had another professor grade it and he said A-...

Prof Newman is simply the best. 2 papers, 1 final project. Readingmovie watching for every class. Incorporates a lot of film, not "too much work." She genuinely cares about her students and about the material. Very inspirational. Grades based on effort and allows you to have your own opinion. Reads drafts and gives very helpful feedback. LOVE!

Class lectures are frustratingly random, but tries to keep the class interesting. Very helpful if you go in for office hours and takes an interest in her students. Grade based on essays (no assignmentsexams), will have readings for each class but they're not too rough

Really enthusiastic professor who genuinely cares about your learning. She gives out drafts and if you are really struggling she will do her best to try to help. She is a really eccentric character which makes the class more fun!

Although she is a tough (but fair) paper grader, Prof. Newman gives chances to bring grades up through rewrites. She also does students a favor by putting such a heavy emphasis on class participation, which can bring up your grade quite a bit. As long as you READ and PARTICIPATE, you will definitely like this class.

Although she is a tough grader on papers, Prof. Newman gives plenty of chances to bring those grades up through rewrites. She also helps you out by giving class participation a heavy influence on your grade, so DO THE READING and most importantly TALK and you will like this class.

Anyone who complains about Newman is obviously stuck in high school. She is the epitome of an amazing college professor. Yes, she's a tough grader sometimes but she gets you to grow up and realize that tests aren't matching or multiple choice and essays actually have to make sense. Funny and sweet. Go to her for extra help! Very brilliant.

So I had her for GSP Social Foundations and while I liked her I hated the class and felt her grading was difficult. I also had her for a topics course and as a topics teacher she is amazing though. Participation= way better grade! Very smart woman and really interesting. Projects were fun and best of all there were no tests.

Avoid this professor at all costs! She is dreadful and completely full of her 'brooklyn' self. Ridiculously hard grader who will allot A's and C's not on the content and quality of essays but whether or not you are one of her favorites! Take any other topics class, this is by far the worst professor in the GSP staff and the worst I've had at NYU!!

She was unorganized. She changed the syllabus many times throughout the semester. Her grading doesn't make sense. When you do the exact opposite of what she says, she'll give you an A.

She explains everything from scratch. I learnt an enormous amount of things. She'll always help you and the classes are interesting. The only ones so far where I haven't fallen asleep. You don't have to be on time on your readings as long as you eventually do them. WOrk hard and you'll thrive. Don't use cliffnotes, she knows them by heart.

Newman is still a fantastic teacher. If you don't like her, it's probably because you didn't try or show up to class. She likes the people who go to class and gives interesting reading and writing assignments. A fabulous, brilliant professor.
