Comment:
Difficult class, he has really boring lectures that go on about statistical theory but doesn't have enough examples or necessary material. However. he has decent online resources on his website, you're probably going to be reading that a lot. Definitely self-study the R programming language. He has only 6 homework assignment grades.

Ammann is probably smart, although you'd never know it. Lectures are mega-boring and hard to follow. Also likes to lecture on stat theory even though what we need to know to do the homework is R syntax. He does a horrible job of equipping you for the homeworks, which are the ONLY graded assignments in this class. Worst class I have taken at UTD

Comment:
I couldn't focus in class due to the lecture style: creating sample code that I couldn't follow and covering theory that was hard to tell if it'd be relevant to the homework. And everyone messes around on their laptops. Homeworks are the only grade, and their feedback wasn't usually helpful. Just self-teach yourself R-studio online while enrolled.

Never provided the class an actual syllabus to follow, so you can never know when you'll have a major project assigned or due. lectures were a bit boring, doesn't aptly prepare you for what you are graded on.

His lectures are pretty boring and he doesn't really teach what I feel we need to know in order to do our projects. Our projects are graded ridiculously, he will take off points for every small thing. Attendance wasn't mandatory. If you can avoid taking him, do it. But if not he's not terrible I just didn't learn too much from him.

I took him for both STAT 3355 and STAT 4382. He was better in 3355, but seemed very apathetic in 4382. He never answered a single email in 4382, and frequently failed to respond in 3355. His grading seemed excessively tough in 4382, and arbitrary in 3355. Generally avoid this prof if you can, which is often impossible.

His lectures don't help for the homework assignments. His notes online are slightly useful, but most of the answers to my questions were found from hours of googling. He rarely responded to emails and the homework assignments weren't clear. Good luck

HE GIVES NO EXAMS JUST HOMEWORK PROJECTS. GRADES EASY IF YOU ANALYZE YOUR CORRECT RESULTS. LECTURE WAS TOTALLY CONFUSING FOR ME, SO I FIGURED OUT ENTIRE CLASS ON MY OWN AND WITH HELP OF A CLASSMATE. LECTURE NOTES HE POST ONLINE WERE HELPFUL THOUGH.

I can't believe the low ratings on here! He's super nice and very helpful. Lecture isn't even mandatory - posts incredibly clear notes online. People with poor grades are probably just lazy. He is the coolest guy, and also he takes a lot of pictures of birds in his spare time. Neat dude.

Doesn't teach very well. Seems lost while writing on the board and says too many umms and ahhs while teaching. He doesn't give any examples for like 2 weeks but expects you to know how to work the questions on the weekly homework and quizzes. Not very clear with his style of teaching and doesn't really care if you understand. Tough grader on hw

Dr. Amman is a good stats teacher. If you need help outside of class, he is very willing to spend the time to help you understand the material. A little boring in class, but hey - it's stats.

I took this class in the Fall 10' and I C'd my way through it as my last class before I graduated. I'm not strong in math and not using a textbook almost killed me. He creates his own notes which are difficult to understand. He calls on students to answer questions which bogs the class down. There were only 3 exams. I suck at math and managed a C.

This professor will teach about once every five class periods. The rest of the time is spent with useless, irrelevant information that will never be used on the exam or in real life. There was no textbook and very few examples. Several class periods were spent going over a single homework problem, which got really boring and irritating.

Very knowledgeable but hard to listen to, very monotone. Calls off roll instead of raised hands . No book. Doesn't post answers to review. Never ends class, people start walking out - always runs over. Must attend class/do work. It takes effort to pay attention. Difficult work & some unclear answers.

This was a difficult class and lectures were pretty boring, but compared to other math professors he's not that bad. If you can stay awake in class and take down notes, especially examples and solutions then you'll do fine. A few surprises on exams but fairly straight forward.

You have to force yourself to pay attention and it is extremly important that you attend every class. You don't need to but the book but printing his notes and taking down notes in class is very helpful. Always do the homework before the test otherwise you will fail.

All probability classes are boring and not very easy. This professor is very boring and says "um... um.." ALL LOT!! he sometimes can't even complete sentence. If you have a chance to take his class, make sure go to class room every single day!!Because he go over question which is very helpful on test. Make sure do all the homework questions.
