He's an endearing man that reminds me of my grandpa. The pacific is a hard subject, but this class made it interesting. Lots of foreign words to learn. Two exams and a 7-10pg paper comprise the final grade. Gave a term list for the 1st exam and a review powerpoint for the 2nd, which are helpful. I got an 87 on exam 1 and I'm an art History major

I don't understand why Professor Poynor is getting bad reviews. You go to class, take notes, study for the tests with flashcards and turn things in on time. It's pretty standard. Didn't find it super hard. I also found him very approachable and helpful. I needed a book for my paper and he helped me track it down to a grad student in another class.

I only took this class because it is required for my major. His lectures were dull and everything that is tested on is in the book (but attendance is mandatory). He was very unclear on when things were due and what was going to be tested on. I ended up with an A but it was because I know how to study for art history. Don't take this for an elective

Dr. Poynor is nice, but I wouldn't recommend him for Non-Western. It may be just because this is a survey course, but I felt like the emphasis was more on memorization than understanding. He also sped through the notes, and it was hard to keep up. He lectured better on African Art, though, which is his area, so I suppose he's a decent African prof.

He's very nice and doesn't require two much studying. I recommend you take his Non-western body art class during the summer so you can avoid a research paper and put on tribal makeup instead. It's a good class.

Very hard and not helpful. I think when 50% of the class drops this course it says a lot about the professor. He's pompous, goes off on wild tangents, and has a terrible perspective on his own subject. He wrote the textbook for the class and it's god awful. I don't know why everyone likes this guy. Worst professor I've ever had.

Non-Western Body Art was a really great class. I wasn't interested before hand, but I ended up learning a lot. His tests were really easy, and he lets you paint your face for extra credit. One of the easiest classes in the art history department.

Dr.Poynor is very nice and this class is interesting. The tests are very difficult and long though, but he often curves them and it isnt impossible to make an A.

As long as you go to class and sort of pay attention, its easy to get at least a B. And make flashcards - its the only way to remember everything on the tests. And he's really nice and helpful.

He's hard!! Very nice, very helpful, and very knowledgable. But HARD!!! Lots of material. Do not expect less than 200 flashcards for his tests.

I didn't appreciate TA's grading my essays for the tests. He also didn't put much into this class, since it wasn't African Art.
