I took several of Dr. Sabino's classes and really enjoyed them! She expects you to come to class prepared to discuss the material. If you pay attention, ask questions, and do the work, you should pass! If you're just looking for an easy course, this isn't for you.

She may come off as rude, but if you have a conversation with her after class you'll realize that if you ask questions and participate in class, and aren't just in it to get credit, you'll be fine. Assuming you put in some time.

She is rude. She mkes you answer questions from the homework in class and when you do not know it she makes a fool out of you. Dropped it halfway through because as she said, if you don't pass the first test, more than likely you wont pass the class.

I do not think I actually learned anything in this class. She is not very clear when teaching and she is rude. Her test never seemed to come from notes, lectures, or the book. I think she thought everyone should already know all of the information she was teaching. I would not recommend taking this class unless you just want to suffer all semester.

Dr. Sabino doesn't believe in study guides, which is bad news if you like passing tests. it seems like you need to memorize EVERYTHiNG, because no matter how i studied, i always felt like there was new material on the tests. She even told us the syllabus wasn't always accurate, we needed to "pay attention and figure out what to study." Watch out.

She curved grades, but I learned about 35% of what she expected us to learn. She is very knowledgeable but teaches through embarrassment/shaming. If you're sensitive to criticism, then you should not take her class. She is not available for you outside of class. The book she chose for us to use had a lot of incorrect information according to her.

Dr. Sabino may rub some students wrong if they don't just go and see her when confused. She is very willing to help and really just wants everyone in her class to learn the material. I struggled in this class but she was consistently helpful in enabling me to improve and do well. She gives a good amount of extra credit opportunities.

She is nice & very knowledgeable about linguistics, but not always good at relaying that information to students in a ways that they can understand it. Tests and quizzes are usually hard. I enjoyed the class, though, and would take it again.

she's really nice and tries to help you anyway she can, but the class was a little too in depth for a survey class. most people were stressed all semester. one problem is that linguistics is vague anyway and she doesnt always say waht the book says...ask alot of questions and participate and youll do fine

Okay person but terrible teacher. She didn't return drafts until after the final paper was due and counted off on things she never said to do. Bragged about failing students and was a hard grader. Avoid taking her.

I hate this class!! She doesn't explain how to do anything, she just tells us that we are learning to "problem solve." Class is miserable. She grades hard. She will correct anything you say, no matter what it is. I wouldn't suggest taking her for honors writing seminar 2, if she's teaching it again.

I magically made a B when I thought I was going to get a D, and maybe even fail. So she's a friendly curver, but still a very difficult and stressing class. Dont count on the curve though. The tests are scary, but not as hard, she just finds ways to make the material difficult and confusing. Every multiple choice will have none of the above.

She is very smart and knows her stuff. Her tests are extremely hard, but she is generous with curves or giving points back for extremely hard questions. Really read the stuff she assigns. She does not do a lot of teaching, but is there to answer questions you have about the reading. Tough, but good.

Dr Sabino is a consummate scholar, and some of the other comments reflect that. If you are interested in the topic, even marginally, I advise you to take her class. She will provide a great foundation in sociolinguistics.
