Absolutely worst ever. Shes one of those professors that expects you to conform to her writing style. She actually expects you to write like an average writer, and allows no advanced technical writing. She is never happy with your papers, and never will be. As a hint, her office is full of feminists novels.

It's clear that she loves literature. I loved her class. Her notes to me were really helpful. Take her class if you want to learn from one of the best.

Worst professor I have ever had in my entire life. She is absolutely the least inciteful teacher ever. We SERIOUSLY spent an entire day of class ranking the characters in a novel from the most good to the most bad. How is this supposed to teach me to analyze literature? It was embarassing being in that class.

bleh. i absolutely love english but she massacred this class. the only thing i learned was how many tiles were on the ceiling in my classroom and that 50 minutes of awkward silence somehow seems to stretch into hours. bad at prompting discussion and not insightful. don't recommend it.

It's really hard to improve in this class. And the less you try to write a good essay the better you do. Hard work doesn't pay off at all!

The most unintelligent English Teacher I've ever had. Her lectures were mostly plot summary because she is not inciteful at all. She's boring, geeky, and she will not be able to help you improve your writing. I could easily out teach her any day. She doesn't know how to prompt discussion. She's pathetic, but rediculously easy.

Dr. Visel is amazing! I had Great Big Novels Winter Term, so LOTS of reading, but if you do the work, you'll be ok. She likes those that participate. I actually liked attending. Good class!

im not an english major but im definately interrested in english. i guess you would love this class if you dont care at all about the teacher and only the reading. she relies on class discussion so if you have an awkward class, which i did, just get ready for a long 50 minutes

Dr. Visel's class was a bit of a bore. I took her for Great Big Novels, so of course there was a TON of reading!! Class discussions/lectures were never terribly enlightening and we watched movies a lot in class. But, to do well, you have to write intelligent papers. On rough drafts, however, Dr. Visel provides ample helpful criticism.

Considering the class topic(The Odyssey) for the entire semester, the class wasn't that hard. She expected you to read the books and take good notes in class. The exams were all essay so they weren't too bad. She helps you a lot on the research paper if you ask for it. She does have a final so beware. If I had to take Eng.12 over, take her.

Vague, very feminist. If you don't agree with her view, you are wrong. Explanations are unclear. Lectures are snore-worthy. Asked her for help an she only criticized vaguely, so I left not kowing what it was that she wanted.

For an advanced class, she definitely treated us like 1st graders. Class discussions are worthless because she can't make things interesting, nor moderate the discussions. If you don't agree with her opinions, you're wrong.

She is VERY opinionated, which means if you don't agree, she will hound you until you do. Plus, she is not very helpful when grading papers, as in she won't give any feedback as to how well you did, nor much for how to improve, then you get a B or worse.

If you don't share the same opinion, you're wrong. Grades tough, explanations aren't helpful, apparently likes you to overanalyze any kind of literature you're writing on. Whacky and not helpful.

I found Dr. Visel's class extremely interesting and was pleasantly surprised that her class involved fewer books but more in depth discussion than other English classes. Required conferences were helpful. Do your work, and you'll be fine.

Dr. Visel is so great. She was one of the professors on my foreign study trip and I had her for writing fiction and women in literature. She's a tough grader, but your writing will improve if you take her class. A little wacky, but fun.
