He is very knowledgeable about what he teaches and his lectures are very interesting. However, he favors male students and if your beliefs don't line up with his then he doesn't like you. He comes across as lighthearted and funny but, one on one that is not the case. Attendance is 110% mandatory and lots of intense reading which he kind've explains

Honestly thought i was going to like him at first, although his lectures were very interesting at the end of the day they were completely irrelevant to the exams. We got assigned a bunch of theoretical and philosophical readings that literally had nothing to do with history.

Interesting lectures. He's very knowledgeable in what he teaches. BUT he is not a caring or understanding person at all. He comes across as if he is funny and caring but he is not AT ALL! MAKE SURE your opinions don't go against his! All in all, wish I liked him more as a person because his lectures are great but I can't get past how rude he is.

By far the best professor i have ever had. I am taking him next semester for Latin history film and I honestly can not wait. I plan on modeling my teaching stlye complete off of him. And hopefully will be taking him for senior seminar. DO THE READINGS!!!! I can not stress this enough. His final exam is on readings even though he says its not.

I took two of Herrera's classes because I fell in love with how he teaches. The things he goes over can be tough, but he'll explain anything to you if you ask. He is hands down the smartest man to teach me at FSU. I almost wish I wasn't graduating so I can take another one of his classes. Truly an amazing professor and person.

I took Dr. Herrera's class more than 10 years ago and it is still a class I talk about to this day. I learned so much from and loved his lecture style. Very engaging!

the hardest teacher I have ever had at FSU. he is very nice and will help you if you go to his office hours. the readings are mandatory, super difficult, and time consuming. Would not recommend if you don't plan on making this class your entire life!!!!

Herrera is a great professor. If you want to learn something instead of breezing through Senior Seminar then take him but be prepared to read a ridiculous amount of books per week on top of weekly papers, on top of a huge research paper. If you want an easy A don't take him. I was way more stressed out than I should've been for Senior Sem

Dr. Herrera is my favorite professor at FSU. He is extremely knowledgeable. He has high expectations, but I have learned more from his classes than any others. He assigns a lot of reading that you must do. Do NOT expect to coast through his class, you have to earn your grade. I highly recommend him if you want to learn and think critically.

There are only a midterm (take home eassay), a critical essay (draft and final) and a final exam. That is the whole grade and He's a tough grader. He only offers office hours as his means of communication. Lectures are interesting. Lots of reading. Readings are very hard but MANDATORY!!!!! I would recommend taking someone else

He can come across as uncaring and critical, but he does have high expectations and does not believe in sugarcoating anything. Most people either hate him or like him, but whatever the case you will learn a LOT from this class. You also have to be prepared for class and participation.

Great Professor. He is very knowledgeable on the topics he addresses. He also introduces several perspectives and anecdotes to allow the student to come to their own conclusions. Many complain that his courses are "difficult." I would consider them to be at college level. Unfortunately many FSU courses are dumbed down. Not a class for slackers.

This is a man clearly in love with the sound of his own voice. He picks terrible movies and talks all the way through them, just so you don't forget who the smartest guy in the room is. He claims to love diverse opinions, unless your opinions are that capitalism is cool. He also whispers a lot. AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS.

He grades hard. There is a sign in sheet, but you're allowed to miss 4 classes before your grade drops. You have to keep up with the reading. Its just a difficult class.

Imagine writing a 20 page research paper on a subject you pick (kind of) having to use the textbooks the way the professor wants you to, without any rubric to follow and while having to read and turn in a report every two weeks about another textbook. tough, helpful but DONT EVER INTERRUPT HIM EVEN TO ASK A QUESTION HE WILL RIP YOU APART. grade: D

Really great professor who helps students become critical thinkers. He really expects a lot from his students, and as a result sometimes can be intimidating. But very helpful outside of class and you learn a lot more from his classes than average history courses.

I took his Latin American History through Film class for the history aspect (it is, after all, listed in the history dept.). He focused much more on the film aspect. He would be a great professor for for film/theatre, but not for history. I learned more about cinema than history.

I hated this class. He has very high expectations that I feel are unreasonable. The essay topics are juvenile and he does not provide much guidance if you go to his office hours. He never talks about the books in class, yet expects you to have read them and completely understand them on your own. I could not wait for this class to end.

One of those special professors that truly cares about his students. The work load is intense, but I have never gotten more from a course or from a professor. He was always willing to help, and he does not accept anything less than your best. The most important thing I learned was how to be a critical reader and thinker.
