If you think that band is a joke-this class is not for you. If you want to work hard towards a common goal-you'll get a lot out of the instruction. Everything the instructor does is so the band gets better-if you have a problem with it, maybe being in band isn't for you. If you music majors feel like its a punishment to be there-find another major.

I really like his teaching style... I never used to but now I really appreciate it. It comes with age I bet. Dr. Chesnutt is the best for UNI. People better wake up and see what a good job he is doing. He is a professional and wants to see everyone succeed.

His conducting style was hard to get used to, but it's okay now. He's pretty understanding, but not very helpful. He wants you to find things out for yourself. However, I love being in band, so I really don't mind too much.

Completely incompetent and arrogant. Often presents total myths as facts - especially knowledge of composers, music history, and conducting techniques. Only those who are ignorant or lack intelligence would enjoy this man's joke of an attempt at teaching.

I had heard bad things about him, but he's actually pretty cool. He is tough when the band starts slacking, but he's very complimentary when we do well and pushes us to do the best we can.

He isn't as hard as people make him sound-Marching band is supposed to be demanding. He has high standards for the band, and he communicates them. His problem is that he doesn't care about all sections. He ignores problems within the drumline, and expects student leaders to take care of it all.

He's demanding, yes, but this was easily my favorite class this semester. He didn't make memorization required, but he had to allow it. I do as well; it makes us that much better. If you're looking for an easy class, look elsewhere. But you will have fun.
