Amazing lectures. Loves to interact with students. If you are taking it for a GE, it is worth taking; he might even just make you fall in love with philosophy. 8 page paper is a little intimidating but not awful; I did it over summer term and I was fine. This man is the best!

This class was easy and engaging. Cook really cares about his students. The only difficult part was an 8 page paper. He encouraged office hour visits, so I came once a week for help on my paper. He helped me find great sources, put together an outline, and make sure my paper was well written. He's a great source for any with religious questions.

I took this class for GE credit and it was probably my least favorite class I have ever taken. Dr. Cook is incredibly intelligent and is very passionate about the subject, but philosophy is just not my thing. Lectures tend to drag and blend together and the research paper (the majority of your grade) is killer.

He really cares about his students & wants you to do learn a lot & do well in the class. There isn't a lot of work, just one big research paper that you work on the whole semester but he helps you a ton with it and so it really was not bad at all. His tests are straight forward & multiple choice. This class was a solid choice to knock out a GE.

Pros: he LOVES his students. He encourages discussion but also points out the main points we need to know for the tests. Basically tells you what to write in your research paper to do well on it. Cons: 100 points total, so every point counts. He will take off points for tiny things on your papers (I got a 4.98/5 on my research outline).

I really enjoyed this class. Interesting way to talk about religion. He took attendance but all material is posted on the slides online. Tests were pretty easy, all multiple choice. The only hard part of this class was the 8 page research paper, but he is willing to help you a ton if you meet with him.

Freshman year: Cared about students, but class was boring and papers were a matter of figuring out what he wanted. Senior year: Polar opposite. New teacher and a new man. Still cares about his students and class was engaging. He has developed so much as a teacher. I can't say it enough: Phil215 from Cook is A MUST.

Amazing man, great teacher, very helpful. Willing to help students with papers and assignments, in fact encouraged us to come by his office. This class was fascinating and inspirational. Take Philosophy of Religion from Brother Cook!

Awesome teacher! He's extremely passionate about the philosophy of religion. He gives great lectures and was a huge help with the final paper. I learned a ton in this class and I think it's a perspective on religion every student at BYU you should get. If you like to think deeply about faith please take this coarse!

Brother Cook is well-intentioned, but sometimes his teaching style is difficult to follow. For me it has been quite a challenge, but I know other students in the class understand him fine. I go through the power points that he uses after every class to make sure I am familiar with the material.

Brother Cook is amazing. So willing to help. Taught extremely subjective material in an objective way. Got us thinking. If you're afraid of challenging your faith with the views of people of different beliefs, don't take the class. But I loved it because it strengthened my faith has helped me to relate to people of different beliefs.

Professor Cook is one of the best at BYU. Take this class from him. You won't regret it. His tests are very straight forward and he will really help you out in any way you need. Tons of office hours and he will help you with anything you need. Didn't buy textbook, missed 30% of classes, still got an A-. More importantly though you'll learn lots!

Professor Cook is the best instructor I've had at BYU, and I graduate next semester. I wish I could take every class I have remaining from him. He literally does all he can to help you succeed in his classes short of just making the course uselessly easy. He is so good at answering questions. I learned so much in his classes.

easy teacher, took this class to fulfill a GE. Just write what he wants (he'll tell you) and you'll get a good grade. Put forth a little effort and you'll be sweet.

Bro Cook is a nice guy. He'll do his best to help you out. His lectures are not always riveting but all his notes are online, so you can easily go back over them. Reading isn't necessary. The tests are sometimes obscure. His cat jokes and personal examples are weird. Average teacher.

I have attended BYU for many years. Roger Cook is by far the worst professor that I have ever had. His lectures are disorganized. He is a nice guy, but if you are not a philosophy student he will ignore your comments or openly demean you. Tests are not comparable to what is taught. Tests are obscure. TAKE THIS FROM A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR IF POSSIBLE

After years of being in school, I have never had such a bad professor. Yes he is easy to talk to, but he doesn't care what you have to say. It is his way or no way. He doesn't stay on topic, and his lectures are so boring. This class was a joke and the worst class i've ever taken. I highly recommend not taking any course from this professor.

Very unorganized. Had to get textbook off amazon because he forgot to tell the bookstore we need a text for the course. Had to take tests in class because he forgot to submit the tests to the testing center. Monotone voice, mostly reads off powerpoints during lecture. 10 page research paper is 35% of your grade.

Brother Cook has to be one of the best professors on campus. He gave specific examples of what would be on tests, and the tests were always based on lectures, no surprise questions. He is not only approachable but LOVES when students talk to him. He took time to go over our research papers with all of us before they were due. Funny cat jokes too.
