Comment:
If you have the chance to take this course, do so. Not only will it allow you to learn more about the world and population around you, it'll make you think differently about how problems are solved geographically/differently than how you may usually approach situations and challenges. An incredibly kind man and great lecturer.

One of the best classes I have taken at Penn State. It's not so much a class on Geography than it is on the world and current events. There is no structure to the class, no exams, just a lot of papers. He is an amazing professor and has so much experience in the field and many cool stories to share. Take this class!!!

There is a LOT of work to do in this class but overall, it isn't that bad. Everything is groupwork. As far as I know, the final grade you get in the class is randomly pulled out of a hat; very few assignments were given an actual grade.

Roger is one of the most passionate teachers I have ever have. I am not a Geog major and was just taking this as an elective and it was definitely one of my favorite classes I have taken at Penn State. His lectures were all so intellectual and interesting and he really knows the topic. PLUS, he's got an English accent. Best teacher I have ever had.

Downs is incredibly knowledgable and interesting. However, not so much in this class. Definitely try to take before senior year - this is a lot of work. Think a lot about how you're going to work everything out before you do it. It's a lot of work, but overall, just make sure you do everything in a professional manner and that it all flows well.

For someone who preaches professionalism, he is rather unprofessional.

This class was AWFUL but Dr. Downs is pretty great! I think he gets that it's an annoying class that all geog majors have to suffer through so he takes it easy on us. As long as you turn everything in on time and pull an okay group for your project, it's a guaranteed A.

Knows his stuff, entertaining, clear, and laid back. Very funny, too. Makes you think without brutalizing you. He's also a cute and expressive old brit. Take his class!

Excellent class! Dr. Downs knows his stuff and the lectures are very interesting. Even if you are not in the honors college or Geography I HIGHLY recommend the class. No exams, just relatively intriguing assignments and a paper. I would say this is by far one of the most interesting, helpful, useful and easy classes offered at Penn State.

He is my favorite professor so far. There are no tests or quizzes. All you have to do is write papers and the grading is designed to help you get an A. I would take another of his classes if I was going into Geography.
