Dr. Kurtz might be the most delightful man I've ever met. He's super approachable and understanding. Class discussions are lively and fun and it's inspiring how passionate he is about the material. He gives great feedback and truly wants all his students to succeed. I will definitely take more classes with him!

Roger is probably my favorite English professor that I have had at Brockport. He is extremely intelligent, and passionate about his work. I would also say he is a pretty fair grader. If you put in a lot of work, he will reward you. There is a lot of reading, but it is an English class. He's an extremely nice man, and I can't recommend him enough.

Dr. Kurtz is a great teacher. He is on time, his syllabus is clear, and his grading is fair. He is by far one of the smartest and nicest people I have ever met. Don't miss out on a chance to take one of his courses. You will learn about the subject and also have a chance to see a model instructor at work. He's the best!

Pretty easy teacher overall, then again I took an english 112 class with him. He has pretty clear rubrics for his essays and assignments- assignments are often, but very small (often 1 paragraph). Awesome teacher, very helpful!

Kurtz was an awesome professor. He is understanding and very approachable. He took the time to explain the histories behind a variety of novels, he kept class discussion interesting with examples. (could have done without the 3/2/1 papers however)

He is great, and you can tell that he really loves what he does. He has a lot of energy and made the class interesting. Discussions all the time, which I was not a fan of, and he seemed to randomly call people out all the time. But overall, I would definitely recommend him.

Lack of space made last comment unclear. Obviously, Roger is brilliant, but the objective (to expand students' notions of Africa) shouldn?t work in a way that assumes students hold uniformly simple beliefs (students are not equally inept). What is enriching for one student (with cliche/simple views) may seem obvious to another.

Aloof. Tries to complicate concepts to degrees that blur reality into something indefinably absurd (2+2=5)--guess students are equally simple/inept. We read a pretentious text deemed lit b/c of publisher rep (author supposedly read Hamlet at 8, understood it too...right). Reinforces mediocrity and reminds me somewhat of Orwell's O'Brien

This is the fourth class I've taken with Kurtz. I love him! He is awesome; smart and funny, and makes class extremely interesting. The few classes I've actually read ALL the books have been his, because I WANTED to. He has a bit more essays than most to write, but always gives very helpful comments when you get them back. Highly recommended!

He's a great teacher--very supportive and enthusiastic. He gives good feedback about your work. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS if you don't have time to read a plethora of novels ranging from around 90 pages to 750. On average, you would have to read 50 pages every day, including weekends, to stay on track, or else only have BS to say during discussion.

Roger and I have personality conflicts. He isn't very clear. He acts like he's never taught this class before. We ask him questions about assignments and he's like "I'll have to get back to you." Class is like high school english. You just read and talk. The class is a disappointment. I wish I would have take in with Jason Richards next semester.

Great guy, great teacher... he makes some flat readings seem tolerable and some great readings even better. 90% discussion, he is big on class participation. Have something to say and you'll do just fine. If he offers this class next fall, take it.

The only reason I stayed at brockport after my first semester. Really helped me through rough times being away from home and getting used to college. So encouraging and gave me a great basis to my college education. I truly owe him a lot
