Man is an absolute legend. Lecture notes were extremely useful, very well written and easily accessible. All test material came straight from lecture notes and all exams were structured similarly to previous ones. Hes a funny and enthusiastic lecturer and is very helpful and approachable outside of class. Email response is a little spotty though.

Guy is an absolute legend. 10/10 would take another class with the guy. No need for a textbook the lecture notes are phenomenal. On top of this one of my favourite lectures to attend as he is very entertaining and one of the best lectures Ive ever had.

The course was pretty hard but he helped us in ways like making the final exam replace our lower midterm marks. He went fast and I had to spend sometime after class reviewing notes but there are no surprises as everything was from the slides. Point groups was the most important IMO so make sure you practice those as theyre used later on in IR/MO.

He is a fairly disorganized prof but he is a great lecturer. He explains the content well and is easy to understand. He has high expectations and expects alot. However his tests are fair. He is willing to help but he isn't going to hold your hand. He writes on the board toward the end of the semester which I wish he did more of. Don't skip class.

Has high expectations of students & treats us like we're chemists. This makes his questions difficult. To succeed, ask him questions, attend his office hours, do all the past papers, and memorize the reactions. And if you see him lots and show that you're putting in the effort, he will give you a good grade. I failed both midterms, but got an A-.

Great prof! Really great at what he does. He is always available outside of class if you have questions. If you make an effort to understand the material he will go a long way to help you.

Roland is a hard to place. He's nice and approachable during office hours and after class. I couldn't make it to one of his office hours after not understanding a thing from the previous one and he was able to set up a meeting with me for 30 min to re-explain the entire lecture. BUT HE NEVER POSTS NOTES AND HE GOES SO FAST WITH HIGH EXPECTATIONS!!

i DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW THIS GUY HAS A 3.5 . This course was an absolute nightmare for me. The last 10 or so lectures were not posted before the final exam, and his in class notes were atrocious. Roland reformulated the labs this year so they were often posted the night before labs. Lab write ups are painfully long and will take 7-10 hours each.

Not very organized, neither in his lecture order, his notes or his marking. He expects a solid grasp of prerequisite material, and didn't help our class that didn't have it. Not the most approachable prof out there (since he shows his disappointment when you don't already know everything), and when you go to ask he's still not super helpful

Roland is an AMAZING professor, one of few in U of C. As a second year student, I was intimidated to be taking a class with mostly 4th years. He made the course material understandable and would throw in a joke or two here or there to lighten the mood. Really cares for students' success and wrote inspirational messages on ALL midterm papers.

Not my favourite prof. Often hard to follow, took ages to grade exams, slides were not up on time, and ineffective teaching methods led to heavy grade cushioning (drop midterm marks for the final), which he said he would no longer do after our session. Textbook is bland and unhelpful.

Really knowledgle prof. He's super friendly, but he has absolutely atrocious notes (which he won't even post online intime for lecture) and the text book is just as bad. Really hard class to comprehend if you in 2nd year. He blows through a ridiculous amount of material without giving you a chance to understand it.

Roesler is a knowledgeable prof. He provides a lot of information and talks nonstop, barely giving your brain time to process it. He will, however, go slower and explain things if asked (otherwise he assumes everyone is up to speed). He assumes you have a strong chemistry background. You will learn a lot with him.

Sympathetic prof. He's really friendly and helpful when you ask questions and keeps his lectures interesting. Extremely generous with part marks. Kind of a spacecase when it comes to putting notes online or returning marks. Make sure you memorize reactions for this course, as they aren't intuitive.

His classes are a little surreal. He focuses on real life chemistry and applications which is great. There is a fair amount of memorization, but he does focus on skills and concepts,so you can get by without memorizing everything. He can be clear and helpful, but you have to ASK QUESTIONS. If you don't get something, can't read his writing, ASK.

Dr. Roesler emphasized remembering reactions that are relevant to everyday life, so you will learn many useful things. It is true that selection of reactions is somewhat random on the final, but if you study you should be able to improvise. Very helpful in office hours, willing to help even with labs. Generous with part marks, overall very fair.

Good prof, must attend class to get notes, he's really bad at posting notes on blackboard; notes promised to us for the final were never posted. He seems to put obscure reactions on the final, rather than the ones he specifies as important. Exams were marked pretty slowly but he's pretty reasonable with giving half marks out.

First half of this class was ok, second half consists of memorizing 50+ reactions and then hope to god that the 2 questions he puts of the final are ones that you remember.

Going into this course, I thought I'd at least get a C+. To my surprise I got an A-. In his class, I don't always feel secure about my grade. It's like he pulls a grade out of a hat and gives it to you! After the final, everyone said they failed, but he does weird things and everyone ends up doing ok! If you like surprises, take a class with him!!!
