Comment:
Professor Zlotin is one of the most genuinely kind and interested professors at IU. Yes lectures were long but usually he broke them up with some really interesting videos. His accent is not that hard to understand if you're paying attention. We only had 1 test-style exam, the rest were take home essays, so not too difficult. One of my fave profs.

Comment:
Zlotin's accent is very thick, so lectures will feel a little slow because he's difficult to understand. The tests are the majority of your grade, so be sure to study. They aren't as easy as you'd expect. DON'T buy or rent the textbook, all test answers come from his lecture notes, the VHS videos, and labs.

I'm quite surprised with all of the low ratings he has solely based on his accent. It's unfortunate, he's not that hard to understand. More importantly, his class is very easy going. I will say that if you don't like writing long papers, don't take this course. The midterm and final are 10+ page papers that are mandatory.

Yeah he has an accent, but I have never found him hard to understand. He's very nice, his lectures are basically reading the notes from online, and watching old videos(vhs). Only annoying thing is he takes attendance everyday. just use class time to study or something. tests are multiple choice.

Very nice man, you can tell he really loves what he teaches. He is Russian so his accent his kinda thick, makes it difficult to pay attention to him but he is clearly understandable. Class is very basic but easy to get lost in in you dont listen.

I loved Professor Zlotin! The accent was difficult to overcome at first, but I had him in an Environmental Studies class first semester and got used to it then. I love hearing him say "water vapor!" :) His lectures are a bit dull but the tests were easy and the labs were good.

This class is insanely easy. All he does is read off lecture notes (which are posted online). We also watched a lot of videos (made in the 80s!). Basically, its a bunch of maptests and last minute studying. There are midterm and final review sheets online. I haven't opened the textbook once.

This class was okay. The tests are pretty easy because the lecture notes are very clear and he lets you know what will be on the test. Definitely need to study for them though. His lectures are pretty boring; he throws in a few jokes here and there.

Excellent professor-- very knowledgable, friendly, charming; apparently very well-liked by all the students in our class. I find it hard to reconcile the negative comments on this page with my experience of him-- he is not difficult to understand at all (maybe his English has improved very quickly?) and he's a very good teacher!

Still pretty hard to understand, but the tests are easy if you study at all. He grades really hard if you miss classes or tests, though--I was going to be graded down for this, but convinced him not to do so after a lot of discussion and proving that my alarm clock really had misfunctioned. Otherwise, his handouts are great--use them.

Thick accent is often tough to overcome, but all test questions are directly off his lecture notes that you can print out. Go to class, I was downgraded from an A+ to a A- for missing classes...you can sit there with headphones if you want.

His accent is thick, but he's really not too bad of a prof, considering research is his primary thing. He does like to show cheesy science videos, which are worth a good laugh. Get past the accent, you'll be fine, because his grading scale is awesome (86-100 is the A range).
