Dr. Butler is easily one of the most knowledgable, challenging, and greatest professors at UMF. Dr. Butler doesn't take sh*t, but will guide you when you ASK. He is challenging, and he makes you work hard--exactly what needs to happen in the science world. His classes get you ready for what it's like in grad school and doing real research.

Amazing Prof. if you actually want to have a career in science. If your not interested in that type of career, then find an easier major. He will teach you how to write papers and carry out research just like they do in big name schools. People hate him because he expects you to TRY. The best Science Prof here. Hands. Down.

Ecology was very challenging but it is not impossible to do well. If you work hard you should be fine. The exams and labs are difficult but again if you put a lot of time and effort into them you will succeed.

I get a kick out of the people complaing about Dr. Butler not giving help. I bet not one of them went to his office hours in which he is very helpful. He helps me now even though Im not in his class this semester. Gives you what you need to pass but you have to do the work. You can cry about too much work but thats life. Deal with it. Great Prof.

Very difficult class! I learned a lot though. Dr. B is ok, he is tough but willing to work with students - some extra credit opportunities at the end of the semester (most need them). Study for his tests!! And did I mention studying? Do it or fail. Also read and re-read (and re-re-read) lab reports..and re-read.

Dr. B is a great professor with vast amounts of knowledge and interest for the material. He definately doesn't give away an A. He makes you earn every last bit of it.If you want to do well in his class you must have the right attitude and put in the effort. His courses are meant to challenge you, but then again, biology is a challenging subject.

A great professor who was very clear on what was expected: very neat lectures and he provided term sheets for tests!!!!! People who say otherwise just didn't get the grade they wanted.

The class was more like a 300 or 400 level. I caught two kinds of the flu at once and was out of class for two weeks with asthma complications. Even though I gave him doctor's notes and kept him informed, he told me to drop the class or he'd fail me for being out so long. My other prof.s were much more understanding. Ruined biology for me.

Exams are in a completely different format from his notes and teaching method. Flippant, demeaning manner toward students. Bio doesn't have to be miserable in order to learn and be a successful science major. Leave the "no pain, no gain" concept in the gym.

Dr. Butler is one of the best professors at UMF. While his courses are challenging it is not impossible to get an A if you do the work. And his attitude - he's right. If you are not willing to apply yourself ao meet the challenge you should NOT be a bio major. You want a major you can breeze through without trying - choose community health.

He definitely knew what he was talking about. but i think he expects us to get what he's talking about right off the bat. He doesn't like to help very much. He assumes you should know everything. His tests are VERY hard. He gave WAY to much work for a 100 level class and i spent most of my time worrying about deadlines.

He is VERY smart and knows his stuff, and I definately learned a lot. I just don't think he cared if people were struggling, and gave way to much work for a 4 credit class. Also, It was a 100 level class taught at a 400 level. I did more work for this class then my other 4 classes combined!!
