I had Dr.Hoelzeman for both ECE 0031/0041. He was excellent in teaching both and would recommend him for any class. Definitely one of the best EE professors at Pitt.

The man! his classes focus on concept and understanding why you are doing what you are learning instead of just computing to find a number. he wouldn't give exams if he didn't have to. with that said they are always straight forward. no calculator this causes some issue when convert complex numbers. I 100 percent recommend this teacher

Good, not great. His class wasn't bad, got boring most of the time. His homework was reasonable, straight from the book. His tests were easy enough. He never seemes too interested in teaching, i guess when you teach for so long things just seem so simple. He is helpful if you ask him. Like I said, only a good professor.

Probably the best engineering professor I have had. I wish he would teach every EE course I take. One of my friends and I agreed that he doesn't reall "teach" you, he bestows information. He always teaches some crazy theory, and then tells you how to get the answer in like two steps. He is awesome.

I have to concur that the exams were easy and the lectures usually boring, though the latter were occasionally punctuated by really interesting material (superposition, adding additional sources and dis/re-connecting, etc.) Nice guy, too.

Nice guy, but I was really bored in his class. He goes over the same thing over and over and over and spends whole classes doing examples. If you want an easy class take him; if you want to be challenged and intellectually stimulated at all, don't.
