Comment:

Professor Shaheen is a great guy. His tests are based solely on memorization, so it's crucial to study a lot. It's also very important to come to class because participation and attendance is important to him. Personally, I don't think his textbook is necessary, but many people found it helpful. Use the glossary in the back if you get it!

He is very passionate about his class and it makes for an engaging class. I was not interested in music for the stage but was happy to show up to class each morning. Everything you need to know is on his study guides, and its easy to find in the book, which he then goes over in class. Simple and straightforward, just show up prepared.

This class is really easy. Just print out the study guides, follow along in class and he tells you the answers. The quizzes are questions from the study guides. Just a lot of memorization. He makes you go to an opera - which is fun :) Overall a dull class.

Good class to fill the fine arts requirement. Shaheen is quite the character and randomly breaks out into song. He's pretty awesome. Quizzes are easy, tests are easy, there's also an opera review, which isn't bad. I recommend.

A very straightforward class. He provides you with outlines of each of the chapters at the beginning of the week with questions to guide your studying. Midterm and Final exams are identical to the study guides. If you study and know what is in the guides, you will get an A. Cheerful and energetic. Highly reccomend this class.

It's an easy class. Tests/"pop" quizzes were straight from the homework (copy and paste). If you don't get a good grade it's your own fault. Shaheen tried to make it as easy and fun as possible, and it was. Don't need to read all of every chapter. Look up the terms in the glossary of the book and skim for the short answers. Fun/laid back class

Absolutely hilarious teacher! He engages his students and keeps you entertained. Music for the Stage is something I enjoy anyways, but he is definitely a great teacher! Highly recommended! :) Makes us laugh EVERYDAY!

I loved this class! It's very laid-back but the material is quite interesting. Dr. Shaheen is very clear on his expectations and he is a fair grader. I looked forward to this class every MWF as a nice break from all my hard classes. Take him!

Brilliant man, this professor!Very helpful during hrs and makes class fun! He switched it up by actual dancing session and playing piano.Class is very well-rounded on all aspects of music.Many movie to gain insight which shows his passion.Tests and final were fair but it's way too much to remember.But great professor! He is so entertaining. The class always has a good time. I dont mind going to class, it tends to go by pretty fast for a TR class. He will call on you, but usually gives you the answer right before. Material is kinda hard but he is a great professor.

He is kinda weird. He doesn't really explain things well, he always calls on people in class and asks them if they know the answer's. This class was too difficult for intro to music. I mean c'mon it's music, who wants to learn about classical crap the whole time. His tests suck and it's pretty boring. He is a really nice guy though.

He is a very funny teacher but he gives too much homework and the exam is way too hard. The only thing i enjoy is playing the piano because thats the only time we have to have fun in class. He expects us to know music even though some of us are new to it.. i would take this class if you have some background with music if not i dont think you should

Looking at all the other comments, it is not surprising to see they are so mixed. He is very moody, one day in a great mood and the next he is bitter and frustrated. The problem is that these moods are cast upon the students and their performance. Also, if he chooses not to like you, he's harder on you, and even meaner.
