Comment:
Very easy class to skip, but his exams are all lecture based. Grade was 1/3 mid term, 1/3 final, and 1/3 term paper which was super easy. Exams were easy, but definitely take good notes and you'll get an A on them all. Did tell a lot of stories but I didn't mind they mixed up the lecture. He lectured all hour and at times it was super boring.

Professor Westrum is a super nice guy. I enjoyed his Honors 105 course however he spends a lot of time discussing his personal life, UFOs etc. All his stories are pretty entertaining and it is a super easy A. Only one paper, a midterm and a final and attendance isn't counted. He is super reasonable and understanding. Would recommend him.

Comment:
Professor Westrum is a brilliant man--absolutely brilliant. However, he is not a good professor, at least for the beginner sociology course. He is a very nice man, but he is not challenging, he makes sexist comments, and he often talks about his ex wife, mistress, and sex. Very easy class, but he is not a high quality professor.

Comment:
DO. NOT. BUY. TEXTBOOK. Lectures are more tangental than focused, and the class learns more about his girlfriend, sex life, kids, and interest in UFOs than about sociology. I have no doubt that he is a very intelligent individual but wow. Easy A for sure, midterms/finals are just three in-class essays each. Easy class but often feels like a waste.

He's a nice guy but lectures are dry and it's hard to know what part you're supposed to take notes on because he starts randomly telling stories about his life. He was very stereotypical when talking about race and he talked about sex a lot too. Gives exam study guides and the exams are easy essay questions (write more, not less!).

Professor Westrum is a fantastic man, and is very sweet. However, he is very monotone and I have learned more about his girlfriend, late wife, ex wife, kids, and hernia than I've learned about sociology. Got into a lot of debates with him, because he's very opinionated. Easy A, rare homework, but wouldn't recommend this class. Don't. Get. Textbook.

he's a very nice man, but a bad professor. class is basically him standing there speaking his opinion on politics or society, all of which are openly socialist. your whole grade is based on only 2 exams, which don't even test your knowledge on the material, just his opinion. so you'll pretty much learn more about his views than any actual material

Easy class but like watching paint dry. Lectures are mostly about wives, ex-girlfriends, and his children. Rarely stays on subject of lecture for long, and is very monotone. You can get an A on the final with an hour of textbook reading. Little to no homework. I learned very little if anything from his lectures. Avoid this prof. if at all possible!

Nice enough man, but spent more time talking about his children and ex wives than about what's in the textbook. Often showed up late, very monotone, and rarely held the attention of the class for longer than five minutes before going on a tangent.

I took Complex Organizations WIN '08. I am surprised by the previous negative posts. He is not as boring as they make it sound! I attended every class and received and A. If you attend class regularly, it would be really hard to not pass this class. He even gives you a study guide that the test questions come from.

I took Complex Organizations with Mr. Westrum. It was during the summer semester which could have made it easier. The material was very easy to understand and he was always willing to help. As long as you go to class and take notes you should get at least B.

With superior knowledge and very laid back teaching style, Mr. Westrum will enrich and open your horizon. Do not expect a dry, boring, easy to pass class, but rather a unique experience due to his impressing past and amazing stories he is alwasy willing to share with you.

Take a pillow and blanket to class. This guy is amazingly boring. It's truly pointless to attend. Just read his boring book and attend on test days. Lecture has nothing to do with anything. To be honest, he is a nice man, but like I said, take a pillow and blanket.

Very unorganized, often late. Self-written book and course pack extremely difficult to navigate. Don't use the study guide in the course pack! He gives out a completely different one near the test. Only attended 1/3 of the classes and managed an A- with thorough reading. However, asks questions not pertaining to the material, so watch out!

Westrum is a very smart man, who is an active sociologist and very knowledgable. My class was straight lecture, but Westrum threw in some jokes, and also loved a good debate so class wasn't too boring. Hes a very sweet man, and very personable. He is willing to help, and answer questions. He also has a very sarcastic dry sense of humor!

Lectures are redundant. Class work is minimal. Tests are fairly easy. Just show up and you should pass.

still teaching but should be fired. all he talks about is himself. tests have nothing to do with his lectures, and are some of the stupidist questions i have ever heard. boaring lectures that will put you in a daze if not a sleep. i got a c in this class and i went most of the time, so i gave him a E on class evaluations.
