I do not know what kind of complex this guy has (I think its a god complex) but his complete arrogance, rudeness, and inappropriateness was appallin to me this semester. we are made to feel like idiots when do not get his completely obscure references he makes during his obscenely long tangents about nothing. Truly, I have learned nothing.

Comment:
He is very intelligent and likes what he does, but he feels like he is above everyone else. His attitude is condescending. We read one long novel over the course, had to turn in our notes from it, and had an essay at the end. The class was all discussion based and it was relatively easy

Judy is curt, demanding, and you never feel like he cares about you, not out of spite but because he honestly has 100 other more important things on his plate. However, he expanded the way I look at literature and the world as a whole, and I don't regret taking his class. Just prepare to be bewildered at all times.

Dr. Judy is an amazing professor, and he is super friendly. While I was intimidated by his sheer intelligence, he tries to make you feel comfortable and feel like your opinions matter. That being said, don't try to skip class and/or not participate. He WILL ask for an explanation and will grill you on your silence. He's not being rude, wants effort

Comment:
Professor Judy is undoubtedly a brilliant man, but it was often difficult to understand what he was talking about, to the point in which he left the room once and the entire class vocalized how little understanding we had. Not a lot of assignments, but there was little clarification, i.e a rubric or discussion of what he was looking for.

Comment:
This class consists of reading the assigned books out of class, watching the movie in class, and very little discussion. The grade is only made up of participation, notebook entries, and a final paper. Judy did not kept track of attendance, was an easy grader, but was too intelligent and often rambled about unrelated topics.

Extremely well read and will assume that you are too. Talked more about events that happened in his life and general philosophy than the assigned scifi readings. Only had three grades: participation (showing up), your class notes, and one paper at the end of the class. Not clear an what he wanted at all for the notebook. Just a lot of uncertainty.

Anyone who thought P. Judy was Too hard, or Self absorbed, missed everything P. Judy attempted to teach us. He is maybe the most intelligent and well read man Ive met. His teaching functions on him inspiring us as students to walk out of the class room confused and dazed, to make us further explore the topics. Do the readings and hold on. worth it!

Disgusting, pretentious Khawarij who eschews self-critical and introspective insight and embraces projection of blame and a fantasy-like level of confidence and arrogance

Worst teacher that I have ever had. Loves to hear himself talk and spends entire classes going on in ridiculous narcissistic displays of his knowledge that no one cares about. This becomes an issue as the majority of our grade is comprised of participation that isn't possible because he is talking. No grades back till the last week of classes.

The illustrious Dr. Ronald A.T. A.K.A R.A. Judy, phD. Probably the most brilliant man I have ever came across in my entire life. His lectures are unbelievable. His opinions are very firm, and if you disagree, expect to be torn to shreds. This is an experience I would recommend that is not for the faint of heart, but I believe necessary. Take him.

I really regret not being more involved in the discussions. I am a shy individual to start with and Dr. Judy is very intellectually intimidating. Do not be intimidated, engage him. I got flashbacks when he told us about drinking gut rot and listening to psychedelic rock. We weren't so different after all and probably would have been friends. Solid.

Very intellectual but doesn't go on a student's level. Lectures run sometimes 20 minutes over. Very tough grader - no instruction or rubric on what he wants for his papers - many here say write what he says in lecture but avoid doing that at all costs - only focus on text. Requires reading every day but barely went over it. Avoid if not for major

While participation is encouraged, he lectured too much which barely left room for discussion. He will clarify questions in office hours. Often times, he showed up 10 minutes late and would lecture for an extra 15 minutes, so don't schedule a 2:30 class if this one ends at 2:15. I'm still unsure of what I was supposed to learn in this class.

Not as bad as everyone says - yes his intellectual level is highly above yours but if you want to learn a lot stick with the class. Completely changed the way I look at humanity and life. Just go to class and try to participate. Being wrong gets easier as you go.

This guy changed my miiiind. Brilliant man. Listen to what he says, because he is right. I had a background in philosophy and history though, so I can imagine he is not for everyone. Don't bother responding in class. You are wrong, as you should be as an undergrad. Doesn't talk about the books, but what he does talk about is really cool.

I enjoy English Lit courses at Pitt, but this class was awful. I read every single page of the required books and attended each lecture but couldn't get an A. Unless you are willing to write exactly what he wants to hear, do not take his class. He may be brilliant, but he preaches more than he teaches, I learned absolutely nothing.

The worst professor I've had so far at Pitt. Ended up spending a LOT of money on books I didnt even open, and still pulled off a B+ by writing papers that mimicked his (pointless) lectures. Never even learns your name, and attendance is useless. I should have known better than to take his class.

If you don't have a background in philosophy or literature, skip him. He hardly uses the books assigned for class and spends class lecturing about overarching literary projects. Boring, a difficult grader at times, and always late for class.
