He's a nice guy don't get me wrong, but he's just slow and boring to listen too. Also has that old school style of teaching where everything he teaches is strictly by the book. Doesn't dumb things done for you even though it's a theology course with many things the average student doesn't understand.

He is a hard teacher but just smile and if you show interest in his course he will respond be giving you fair grades. If you show your dislike or lack of effort, he will grade you the way you feel about it. Laugh at his jokes and be respectful

The class I had was terrible. Ketteler is nice enough, but you learn nothing. He teaches in gibberish, gives notes in gibberish, and is completely sporadic. To this day, I don't know what I was supposed to learn in that class or what it even covered. BE WARNED

I think he has been treated unfairly on this site. He is a very kind and compassionate man. He does have high expectations but they are clearly presented during the first lecture. Anyone who is willing to put forth a reasonable amount of effort should have no problem earning an A. It is Theology 425, it isn't supossed to be extremely easy.

Fr. Kettler doesn't care about anyone's opinion but his own. However, he is more powerful than any member of the college administration so the best thing to do is avoid his classes. I recommend Dr. Hollar.

A lot of reading, a lot of writing, but not a lot of teaching. If you're smart, don't do it. Find another professor. Adjust your schedule. Do whatever you have to do to avoid this professor-that's if you have a life outside of class or if you don't want to listen to this guy stroke his own ego. What a shame.

Comment:
It's interesting that a class in Theology can feel like Hell. The lectures are pointless and the class involves a large amount of reading and writing that basically regurgitates every thing that was read. The class prevents the student from formulating their own opinions. You basically rewrite many of Ketteler's work-which isn't even his own.

He is not very kind. Grading scale is based on how much he likes you. If you write excellent papers but don't agree with him, you will not be receiving an A.

Comment:
Fear independent thinking. Anything except regurgitation of Ketteler's articles results in a poor grade. His lectures consist of little teaching, none of which is organized, and tons of anecdotes from his life. Don't take this if you want to learn anything or expand your own views. All he wants is for you to stroke his ego.

Father Ketteler is a wonderful teacher with a very crystal clear view on Theology and Religion. By the far the sweetest man you will meet! His class is tough and you better expect to write alot of papers but he is fair in grading.

Go in with an open and unopinionated view. He thinks he is a riot but often times the class is clueless to his humor. Be prepared to restate exactly what he writes but in your own UNOPINIONATED words. Aside from his rants about non lecture or class related material he did open my eyes to the views and acts of true CHRISTIANS. Will take again.

This guy is horrible. You get an A if your a fav pick of his. The whole class is writing reflections on his work. The sad thing is it isnt even his work. He has a "monograph" that is nothing but quotes from other people. Is not intelligent enough to form his own opinions. Im so glad im done! I feel sorry for his parishoners!!!

I was told not to take him by a person a class higher and I should have listened. He was the worst prof. I've had and probably will have. Under no circumstances should you take this ranting penguin. His class will make you lose faith, I personally went from agnostic to atheistic while attending his class. Do NOT take this man EVER!

Theology 309: I wrote ~35 papers in 8 weeks totalling 107 pages. If you are looking for an easy class, you took a wrong turn in Albuquerque. He is the toughest english speaking prof I ever had.

Terrible is the first word to come to mind. Lots of unecessary writing/regurgitation of his own writings that isn't of any benefit as if you attempt to incorporate any of your own thoughts you are penalized. I'd suggest skipping this one and trying Shadler.
