Probably the most rewarding class I've taken at SLU - learned SO much. However, as others have noted, he has HORRIBLE handwriting, which might sound funny at first but it really hinders note-taking and the learning process in general. This class is a HUGE amount of work also. But overall I think it was worth it.

TONS of reading, but a very interesting class. You watch movies sometimes so that's a bonus, but Dr. Modras has HORRIBLE handwriting! If you miss what he says, don't expect to just copy it off the board because it is literally unreadable. Midterm and final reasonable, and 3 "field trips"

While Dr. Modras is very enthusiastic about Judaism, Christianity, and Islam he is not that much help outside of class. I've never had a teacher discourage me from asking for help before as he did right before the midterm. Remember to go to class or make friends if you don't because he won't help you.

Easy teacher, makes class discussion interesting. Knows theology and church teaching inside and out. Very opinionated, which is a good thing, but will make you uncomfortable if you are not open to lively debate.

Brilliant man. Strict attendance policy and massive reading assignments, so you may want to steer clear of him if you do not have an interest in theology. If you take a class with him though, make sure to go chat with him in his office as it'll be one of the most interesting conversations you'll have in college.

Dr. Modras is very enthusiastic and his lectures really provoke thought. The midterm is very simple as long as you follow his studyguide and take notes. The class is easy, although there is a lot of reading involved for the class discussions and webCT posts. Take Jerusalem a City of Three Faiths!

I took him for Judaism. He's a very nice guy who is willing to help anyone out. The textbooks he chooses are kind of boring, but he's a good teacher. His mid-term and final are really easy as long as you do the study guide.
