Comment:

Prof. McEwen is one of the best professors I've had since being at Geneseo. She is one of the most involved and caring professors who genuinely wants you to learn. If you participate and put in effort, it will reflect in your grade.

Spanish Conversation was one of many classes I took with Rose. She was the most challenging professor at Geneseo. As a Spanish teacher, I would not be where I am today if it was not for her.

She's often very unorganized and frazzled. Very kind, but blames you for things that were her fault for unpreparedness. Very passionate about subject. Hard to meet with her outside of class because she is never available and won't show up to your meeting 80% of the time.

Unless you have experience in Spanish courses, don't take McEwen. She is unclear and generally was very rude to students. I only did as well as I did because I'm fluent in Spanish.

Comment:

McEwen is good and not good. It is hard to tell. You do learn, but she is always frazzled and unorganized. She is a great person, but she can definitely have an attitude with her students sometimes. The most frustrating thing about her classes is that many times things are just up in air or on the fly.

Rose is one of the best professors at Geneseo. She has a big heart and will be one of the people you want to stay in contact with well after college. If you want a good grade you should study. If you don't understand something you should ask. She won't spoon feed you - she actually wants you to learn.

All my classmates who had several years of Spanish prior to this class did fine, but I know students who had never taken Spanish before were struggling a lot. God B's on every test and quiz but ended with an A because she relies heavily on participation. She's pretty unorganized so always ask for clarification.

She expects a lot from you while putting in the bare minimum herself. Best example, she takes points from your participation grade if you show up late but comes in 15-30 minutes late herself (multiple times). Her instructions are confusing (even in English). Most of the learning you do is on your own

This class was one of the least organized classes I have taken and was highly demotivating for a Spanish major. Exams were on material never covered in class and were just rote memorization of hundreds of random terms. It could have been an interesting course, but was really all over the place with little to no content, mostly YouTube videos.

Class is pretty easy and clear as long as you do the readings and hw. Making an appt or meeting outside class is difficult as she is always busy but when you finally meet with her shes very nice and helpful. She helped me plan out everything from study abroad to all the courses I'm going to take. Showed up 15 min late to class almost everyday.

she really is a great teacher. always is flustered and usually shows up late, but if you even try to participate you will do well. she stops collecting homework halfway through the semester. Tests are 3 essays in like 45 mins and you usually run out of time though. Overall a good class, but need to spend a lot of time out of class reading

Rose would do ANYTHING for her students when she sees they care and are putting effort in. She always looks frazzled (because of her hair) and also because she is the head of the department and takes on more than any other professor or department head does. She can not say no to a request and tries to help to many people because of her huge heart

She's a very good teacher. Always smiling and never singles you out for dumb mistakes. If she corrects you, it's nicely. She is a tough grader, so watch out. It's not easy, but I don't ever feel very stressed about it. Just study your notes because she likes to give quizzes.

Very all over the place. Doesn't return papers on time. Doesn't arrive to class on time. Got the feeling she really didn't care about the class. EXTREMELY picky on tests. If you don't write her EXACT words for an answer she marks you wrong. The final was a gift from God which saved me and got me a B in the class.

An absolute treasure, Dr. McEwen was by far the best professor at SUNY Geneseo. Takes an absolute interest in her students. That's something I never experienced with Gomez. She's sophisticated, energetic and encouraging.
