One of the best prof's I've taken in 6 years of college/university. Very understanding of students having other classes and will adjust his due dates if the class asks. Has weekly readings that has small in class activities worth a decent amount of your mark but they're pretty easy! Super funny, engaging and passionate about his work.

Pretty standard easy course; potential GPA booster if you attend each class and apply effort. Following along with the posted slides during scheduled lecture time allows you to correctly answer most of the real-time TopHat questions while skipping class. If you skip, use the lecture recordings when studying for the "exams" to know what's important.

I have taken three classes with Ross. He is very funny and laid back, which is mostly a good thing. He makes lectures fun and he marks very fairly. However, he never answers emails. If you have a question, make sure to ask him during class or office hours because he won't respond to emails. Also, he takes a super long time to mark stuff.

I'm taking this class right now for my B-Soc requirement. The quizzes can include the most obscure details, so you're better off memorizing the lecture slides, since there is way too much in the textbook to memorize it all (I tried that, and did better when I focused on the lecture slides). First writing assignment was easy. Second yet to come.

A lot of memorization involved, but an easy 20% from TopHat (not iClicker) and written assignments worth 30%. 5 quizzes worth 10% each, noncumulative and no final exam. If you pay attention and read the book you will do well!

A really interesting professor. Probably one of the most interesting guys you'll meet at sfu. He's a enjoy to listen to, and great jokes to go along with the archaeology which sometimes can get dull... but his jokes lighten things up.

I also took this course because others say it was a GPA booster. but I ended up with B+. It indeed requires a lot of reading. Although i mostly read the textbook just one or two days before the exams. He makes the lecture interesting. Overall good course. (but it's not an easy A course.)

Took as a GPA booster but didn't really turn out that way. Ended up with a B+. You actually have to take this class seriously to do well because the writing assignments are total BS and seems like its marked by 5 year olds instead of PhD students. Quizzes are stupidly detailed so study the book and lectures. The free 20% for monocle cat is nice.

Don't take this course for an easy A. Reading material is excruciatingly dry. There is A LOT of reading to do and the quizzes are very specific to TINY minor details. He is a nice guy, sometimes funny in lecture. He has recordings and lecture slides posted up but the quizzes hardly cover that.

The only thing I can say is that there is definitely a lot of memorization involved. If you only have three or four classes I suggest you take this class and laugh your way to an A. Nothing is off limits on tests, but if you just read the textbook the night before without really retaining anything you can still get 70% on his quizzes.

Lies, all lies.... I took this course because of all the good thing's I've heard about him. I'm a biology major so I'm good a memorizing, but his course is WAY too hard for a 1st year course. Hellava too much material to know, really a hit and miss from the ~200 pages worth of dry reading material into a 50min quiz. STEER CLEAR from this course.
