I found Dr. Balch to be very intelligent, interesting, and a good communicator. He made just about any topic interesting. Whenever I saw him around Iowa City, I was always greeted, by name, with a smile. In conversation, he was patient, and a good listener. Even if our views were different on a topic, he took time to listen to me. A great man.

My favorite professor at the University. A brilliant man that really helped me, especially when I was having trouble. If you don't like him, maybe you should change your major to marketing because you're not smart enough to understand economics.

I sat up front and fell asleep every single class. He was absolutely terrible. I would pass him in the halls later in the day, and he would just stare me down as he walked by. I guess he didn't like that I couldn't handle how boring he was.

The lectures are completely pointless because the notes are online and during class he simply reads the notes. His monotone voice will put you to sleep everyday, the tests are extremely difficult, and he does a horrible job of teaching the material.
