The long and short of it is, if you want to learn Spanish, take Ross. He cares if you learn the language and his grading reflects that. If you just want to get through the foreign language requirement and don't care about learning Spanish avoid taking Ross. It's that easy.

Ross isn't a bad guy, but he's very extreme. He also was quite rude to students who were not interesting in Hispanic culture and only taking it as a requirement.

Rafa is an amazing professor with such a passion for the language/culture that it is contagious. Treat him with respect and he will do the same. He expects some effort in class and is extremely willing to help those who put forth effort. This is not a class for the lazy individual who wants an easy A. But if you're serious, highly recommended!

Definately a great teacher! Always willing to help and makes things understandable in class. Very animated, which makes learning easier. Not as hard as people make it out to be, and is EXTREMELY fair. He also gives a lot of answers on tests if you give a general answer. Great guy, definately take his class. Will make later classes much easier.

he is a very hard teacher. If you dont have time or want to do homework, then dont take him. Granted, the answers are in the back of the notebook...but still. his tests suck and will jump you if you dont study very hard and look for the obscure vocabulary. he is nice though.

I believe that ONU is blessed to have a man like Ross Sutherland. I learned more Spanish from him in 2 quarters than 3 H.S. years. Plus an intersting guy outside of class. So much to offer to college students. I have nothing but praise for the man.
