This class was the most unorganized classes I have ever taken. He never used the syllabus and then randomly assigned "homework" apart from the syllabus mid lecture without giving criteria. Hes extremely knowledgeable and gives a huge amount of extra credit. It was an easy A, but lectures and tests are based off of his own stories & life experience.

Dr. Ruben is wonderful. He is s nice guy and will go out of his way to help you past the class. He may get off topic sometimes but if you go to class and turn in you work then its a easy A.

Dr. Ruben is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet in your entire life! He's so friendly and really cares about his students. He is very spiratic, and gets off topic very easily and can be hard to take notes from but if you listen and pay attention you should do well on his exams. He gives a lot of extra credit at the end of the year too.

Dr. Ruben is a wonderful professor. His class on Latinos was excellent and so helpful. Everything that I learned in his class, I have put to good use in my career. Yes, a lot of work is required, but it is to benefit the student not just busy work. As the one of the only minorities(and not Latina)in class, I did not feel favored.

If you need an organized teacher, don't take Dr. Ruben! He skips all over the place and never follows the syllabus. Also, there were SO MANY group projects, which were terrible. That being said, I thought that everything I learned in the class was very useful. I think I would take another class by him.

This class was torture for me towards the end of it. I really liked it at the beginning, but as it progressed, we did tons of projects and very long papers. Everything is done in groups so make sure you pick a good group the first day!!! My largest frustration with this class was the fact that he changes things all the time and is ALWAYS unclear!

Won't do well in this class if you don't go to class. He based exams off of movies and class materials. Book is in the library, don't need to buy. Only uses book at the end for the education lectures. Don't take with HDFS 4080 because that is too many papers.I would take HDFS 4080 Fall and this class in the spring because papers are shorter in 1070

He is a good professor. He is very dedicated to his topics and loves what he does. He gives out extra credit like no other professor ive seen! (like over 25 points of extra credit!) He Curves test grades etc. I would take him again!

I think those previous ratings are way too harsh. Dr. Ruben has alot of passion for his topic. He is al ittle hard to follow sometimes but if you just listen to the lectures and work hard on your papers you will get a good grade and learn alot in the process. Also, don't wait too long to get started with your work -- it creeps up on you.

An actual test question was "What does Dr Ruben think is a good toy for his son?" the answer was..a cardboard box. This man is a waste of a tenyear. This also means he can't be fired easliy. I leave this class pissed daily, he can't teach and you wont learn, but then some of his tests will be hard? He's horrible

This man is stupid. I do not know how he got a doctorate degree. The teachers assistant does all the work, so hopefully you'll get an easy grader. We spend the whole time learning about him and his life and opinons, rather tan facts or anything useful. Avoid him if you can. He picks favorites, and acts like no one else exisits.

well what to say....Ruben is a nice guy, EASY EASY A in the class....very boring and useless...although he would not say the same. Repeats: "By all means folks" about 400 times during the class. But take his classes....they are easy and common sense! Just be prepared....you'll see what I mean!!!
