Comment:
Loved him! Was great to kick back with Russ during his office hours and just ask him anything about the Romantic writers and poets - Especially Blake. I remember during one of his classes, I pointed out that Blake had "stain'd the water clear" in his Introduction to the Songs of Innocence, and it seemed to blow his mind! Really good dude-Bless Him.

Eccentric, to say the least, but he loves what he does. Do not take him for lower division, stick to literary topics such as Blake and Shakespeare. Frankly, I miss this guy and would love to attend one of his lectures again.

Had him for 4 classes while I was at HSU. This man is one of the best writing teachers ever, though if you aren't into the subject matter of his lit classes you aren't going to like his lectures. Get him talking about Blake and you will be AMAZED at the knowledge and insight one man can have.

Boring professor. Sometimes he's funny, but he repeats himself a lot. Only take this class if you really REALLY like depressing poetry and literature and you are obsessive about the 'deeper meaning' of every word and phrase. He's not interested in your opi

HORRIBLE Prof. Listened to himself talk for the whole hour, incredibly confusing, and obsessed with death. If I had known he was this bad I would not have taken the class. Total waste of time.

Extremely demanding, which is fine, but also unreasonable and belittling. Said nothing constructive to help me improve my writing. Constantly tore my work apart but never really helped me build it up. Seems a bit hung up on Blake as well. I enjoyed literature prior to his class. Avoid if you can.

I took him for Advanced Shakes. Studies and The Blake Seminar. Very unorthodox, at times crude. Challenging, knows his stuff; he has a way of offending + amusing + informing, all at once. Opens his home to his grad students for Lit. discussion.

An unpopular teacher, because he gives idiotic HSU students the slap in the face they deserve. He gave me the only C I ever got at HSU, and I definately had it coming. An excellent teacher and a fascinatingly complex human being.

Not the most rewarding educational experience I've had. He definitely knows the material, but his teaching is quite unstable.

very funny guy. his laid back teaching style may not work for some people. His style does work though because all the english professoers say that they can tell the kids that took his class because the are better writers than those who didnt.
