Ruth has by far been one of my best teachers in my life. She works really hard to make learning fun. While her classes was really fun, I learned so much but not only about textbook science but about the real life application of science. She wants her students to learn, take risks, and try there best, so if you willing to work, you will do well.

One of the best chemistry professors at UT. I was really struggling in 301 with her class, but I went to office hours and she was extremely helpful. Would definitely take again.

I loved taking Dr. Shear's class! Chem is not an easy subject but she definitely tried to help all students as much as she could by explaining topics in different forms and making sure to be available for office hours. She is so friendly so don't feel intimidated to ask questions, every time I asked she was glad to help.

Professor Shear is awesome. The tests will absolutely challenge you and require you to study far in advance but there are no surprises on the exam. Also her grading policy is very helpful if you dont do well on the exams. Highly recommended.

Really cares about her students and the class. Tests were very hard but she gives all the material necessary to pass if you listen during lectures. Gives a little bit of extra credit and participation is a grade. Didn't like the use of ALEKS for homework. Overall great teacher, knows what she's talking about and how to teach it.

There are quizzes due before each lecture with 3 attempts. Homeworks due weekly with 2 tries. Relies heavily on aleks to teach the class but the information learned here does not correlate to how she is teaching it in class. Test are easy but the hard questions are worth more which lowered my grade. Iclickers are used each class but graded hard.

How I got an A+ : Studied every PQ, annotated lecture printouts, redid the homeworks, practiced more with her sample exams, and asked questions on Piazza. Its not hard. Plus, I had an extra 9 points added to my exams because I did the extra credit. If you put in the work, you get the gold. Hookem

Best chemistry 1 professor at UT Austin. Shes the full package. Dr. Ruth cares so much about her students, when she doesnt need to. She tries to see where you went wrong to help you succeed. I wish I could take her for chem2 but she says shes not the same bubbly person for that class :( overall, shes a solid 10/10.

Honestly i hated chemistry before taking her class. I HATED it. But her class made me fall in love with it. Shes an amazing professor. Gives GREAT demonstrations during class when explaining heavy concepts. You cant complain about her. She literally tries to connect with everyone to make sure everyone is on the same page.

This class is not difficult. She gives you every opportunity to make an A. She gives a sample exam for every exam, and the questions are just like the homework and sample exam. HOWEVER, she is the absolute rudest person I have ever met, which is why I'm giving her a low rating. I have never been belittled by ANYONE in the way she belittled me. RUDE

Dr. Ruth has been one of my favorite professors at UT so far. She cares a lot about her students and encourages them to ask questions/go to office hours if they feel lost. While there is a significant amount of work involved, it all helps you understand the material better. I came into her class hating chemistry and left really liking it.

She's a very caring professor who gives you multiple options on how to your final grade will be finalized. I would recommend doing ALEKS as hw even though ALEKS is a pain to do. Attendance is mandatory since she does iClicker questions. The easiest chem professor you can have.

Dr. Ruth is an amazing professor. I was worried about this being a tough class but the homework is very helpful and you get a really good idea of what is going to be on her tests. Lots of homework but its really fast and easy to do. Lots of extra credit.

Ruth is a truly amazing professor, she cares about the material and gives you every opportunity to succeed within her class. It is a lot of outside work, without due dates, so it is really important to stay on top of the workload. I learned so much in her lab class through inquiries, however her lectures often are boring and largely irrelevant.

Dr. Ruth loves what she teaches so you'll be learning from one of the best. Her lectures at times do get a bit boring since she describes everything in detail to prepare you for lab. A good plus to this class is that it is a guaranteed A if you finish all the assignments by the last class day, but it's a lot of work and gets overwhelming at times.

Comment:
Dr. Ruth is a terrible professor for CH 302. She has no idea what she's doing and when students approach her for questions she often has no clue how to answer it. Most of the people were failing so she had to curve the class. Don't take her.

She was a nice person, but she came off as very judgmental and intimidating. I did not feel very comfortable approaching her with questions. She has a strike system where if you get 4 strikes, you have to take a final exam, which is brutal and based on information that is not relevant to the course. I would advise against taking her class.
