She lost the first test I took and then waited to the last week of class to make me take it again with one day to prepare. I think she missed 5 classes and no email warning. Tests are essays and you need to be very specific or you will get a 0 which is a big problem because test make up 50% of your grade. I would never take her again.

I would stand against the negative review on here. She might be a tough grader and focus on participation, but that is a norm of St. Mary's. Anyway, she is knowledgable and knows her stuff. I would take her classes again if I had the chance. I recommend them for anyone, especially those interested in political science. Best of luck!

Wonderful professor. Her class is mainly discussion based, so make sure you follow along with what's being discussed and contribute and you should be fine. She knows her material very well and knows how to teach it, too.

Professor Shafqat is the most engaging and thoughtful professor I have ever had. Class discussions are great and I will seek out any classes she is teaching in the future. She personally connects with her students and keeps two-hour-long classes stimulating. Also bonus points for her classic vest/blazer look.

Wow, where do I start? Professor Shafqat is by far the best and most interesting professor I have ever had. She sparked my interest in political science so much more, and allowed me to learn so much in just her intro course! I really can't wait to take more courses from her in the future. Do the reading, be ready to speak, and just care about class

Shafqat is an great professor, easily my favorite. Her class is the only class I am actually enjoying at the moment and her teaching style and personality make the subject of politics fun and assessable. Try to get her if you want to take polysci 101!! It is work, but not unreasonable work and you know what is expected of you. :)

An all-around great teacher, seriously. I had her for both POSC252 and my First Year Seminar - Global City. She's friendly and approachable, and is obviously very passionate about what she does. I'm not going to lie - her class is not easy (well, FYS is another story...), but she rarely throws you a curveball when it comes to tests and essays.

Very hard grader. Almost unfair to a point. But she is very willing to help you with whatever. I'm a conservative, so I felt out of place during the class, because she is definitely a liberal. The comments by the students were what created my disdain for this class the most. READ THE BOOK!!!

Impossible class. She is a nice lady and willing to work with you, but it does no good. If you are taking this as a Gen Ed, do not take this class... look elsewhere
