If you want to learn the subject and have a good understanding of calculus in the end... then take this guy. He's a great teacher and a nice guy. He truly wants you to learn. But if you just wanna fudge your way through and get a grade I would encourage you to find another class because it will save you many tears. You'll find no free lunches here.

Papen is nice but that doesn't teach. A majority of the class just stop showing up due to his tests being overly difficult. He rushes through the material. He'll stay after to help walk you through the material. He does contradict himself when suggesting ways to study when I approached him personally & resorted to cheap excuses to cover his tail.

His lectures aren't bad, however, his tests are harder than the homework and he goes out of his way to put trick questions on the tests/quizzes. He refuses to adjust his teaching method to help students. My math GPA prior to him was a B+ so if you are not a complete 'A grade' math wiz, DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER! He will screw you over if he can.

Math is so hard for me, especially 130 algebra. I think Mr.P is an awesome teacher, he lectures every class period the entire time but he really makes you understand things. He's really funny, kinda mean/funny sometimes.... I would recommend him but only if your're willing to put in outside work. You won't succeed in class if you don't study hard.

Papen is an amazing teacher. Not an easy A, but it's Calculus. It's not supposed to be. He doesn't do the work for you, but he will show you exactly how to do it. 5 tests including the final and homework for each section, but he gives you all the homework at the beginning and it isn't due until the day before the test. He is very funny and caring.

THIS PROFESSOR HAS TERRIBLE OUTDATED VIDEOS THAT HE USES FOR TEACHING. HE DOES NOT ADEQUATELY PREPARE STUDENTS FOR TESTS. EVERY TEST ONLY HAS ABOUT 15 QUESTIONS EACH THAT ARE WORTH BETWEEN 5-8 POINTS EACH. ALSO THERE WAS AT LEAST 2 QUESTIONS ON EACH TEST THAT WAS NOT COVERED AT ALL BEFORE TEST TAKING. i HAVE TALKED TO 5 OTHER STUDENTS THAT STRUGGLE

Mr. Papen is an amazing teacher. He is really funny and laid back. He is very helpful and wants everyone to know what is going on in lecture. He gives you two days for homework, and he tries to give as much partial credit as possible. He is a great teacher if you really want to understand the material.

Took Calc 1. This class is not an easy A, the tests are hard and there is a lot of homework. However, the lectures are really good and Mr. Papen is great at answering questions if you have them. This was the first math class I've ever had that I got an A.

Calc I is HARD. Be prepared to either have prior calc experience or dedicate your whole life to this class if you want an A. One missed question on a test will drop you to a B, but he give lots of partial credit. No study guides. Homework graded on accuracy, 2+ days to do homework. Papen is a good choice, but don't expect to be handed a good grade

Mr. Papen is one of the best instructors I've had in any class. He explained everything clearly, and he graded fairly. He could also be funny, and he had a friendly demeanor. I've lost count of how many times I've recommended him to others. I strongly suggest taking his class!

This teacher was really helpful, he is the math head at OTC. I had taken 110 before with another teacher and failed. Papen made it really easy to understand, you should always do the homework he assigns, it will really help your grade.

you know i have never really been one of those kids that knew what they where doing in math until college. If you have a hard time understanding math make sure you take him. he is the head of the math department so he knows what hes doing. Hes pretty funny too and keeps the class interesting.
