He is a sweet person and a good lecturer but you can sometimes get lost as to what points he was making or how they were connected to in the context of certain topics. You do have to take really good notes to take his MC tests which are actually trickier than you thought! Having said that, it's an interesting class and makes you learn a lot.

Prof. Rettig is adorable.. he is a bit forgetful but given his age you should understand. if your good at taking notes then the class should be interesting for you. i recommend getting the textbook because it'll come in handy for exams !

Comment:
As a person, Prof Rettig is very sweet and very knowledgeable. But as a professor, I found it extremely difficult to understand the key points in the lectures. His syllabus is very unstructured and often times there is no point in participating because he may not have his hearing aid in. There's no PP so he either writes on the board or talks.

Textbook isn't mandatory.2 exams each 50% of your grade with the option of dropping the first one. If you take good notes you should be able to do well given that he curves the exams significantly.

Great professor. Very accomplished. Can ramble a little in lecture and often goes off topic. This can get a little boring but I feel like I have learned a lot from this class though. Lived an interesting life and I would recommend him for any Psych Majors. He curves a final and a midterm very well.

Took him for Social Psychology. It's a really interesting class. If you want a hands-on, interesting class then I would definitely suggest taking another class. He is alright. He does put in effort although I feel the class drags on a LOT. There is one midterm and a final. MC questions are tricky. He gives the option to drop the midterm.

There is only one midterm and a final, both being multiple choice exams. Textbook is not required, but it can be helpful to read the material. The multiple choice questions can be very confusing since they don't only come from lecture and textbook content. However, he curves the exams a lot!!

there is no textbook!you have to come to class and take notes to remotely do well. his midterm is horrible. everyone failed but he curves it so much that a 64 becomes a B+. so technically you dont fail. his final was decent. i wish his tests were on the material he actually taught

Prof Rettig does not use a textbook, which means you MUST attend class to take notes. He often refers to outdated research, drones on about the Holocaust and his daugter's personal life, hence a very boring class. His two exams (midterm and final) are written to trick you. If you think like him you will pass.

He is alright. It wasn't a hard class. But it seems as if he doesn't say much in class and you think you have figured it all out and on the exams you have no idea how to answer some of the questions. I haven't read the book and I got a B+ so I guess that if I had read it I would get a nicer grade..But he's a nice guy, take him if you can :)

He was really unclear and pretty boring, and he tested us on completely different material than what he lectured on. Also the final and midterm each comprise 50% of your grade, with no other points.

Fall '10 is his last semester ever. I feel honored to have been his student + hear his anecdotes about the Holocaust, life in a Kibbutz, his children and dating life. His tests however, are a complete enigma. I don't know where he came up with the questions. I'm an A student and was only sure about 15/50 questions. I guessed on the rest.

This 350 char. limit is upsetting, because I can go on forever about how wonderful this man is. No, the class is not easy, but you will learn an incredible amount of information. If your interested in pursuing graduate school in Social Psychology I really think professor Rettig is the only choice. I HIGHLY recommend him.

One of the best professors i ever had. I was a little wary the first class when i saw how old he was (87!) however he turned out to be one of the most interesting professors of all time! he made what could have been a very boring lecture, something i looked forward to. He knows the material very well and uses his own amazing experiences to clarify

He is an amazing professor. Go to class and take good notes. .HUGE CURVE because his tests are confusing but you can drop the midterm and do well on the final. That is what I did and ended up with an A (had a C on the midterm which i dropped). He makes classes fun and interesting lecture. :)

He's a good professor, but his tests are very detail. You must know the book very well in order to do decent, and well after he curves the test. His lectures are very interesting and he knows his stuff. But he'll mostly cover his own material and leaves you to read the book for yourself.

Fabulous professor. I took his undergrad Social Psych course plus his grad level Small Group Psych (therapy) course - both in the late 1990s. He was awesome then and I am sure he hasn't missed a beat since.

This is the best professor I have had in my entire life. Too bad he only teaches one undergrad course at Hunter. He is not easy, but if you are interested in the subject, take him! You will have to come to class though and take notes, because the use of textbook is minimal. I would love to take another course with him if I could.
