Brooks is retiring after the final of this semester, so this isn't too helpful to people but if he was to come back and teach, don't choose him unless you are very intelligent and/or need the class at the certain time he is teaching. He's a great person to talk to one on one, but his teaching style is just wacky. The Nutty Professor all the way.

Dr. Brooks is an amazingly intelligent professor! He does so many things in his classes that will just amaze you (if you take him for classes other than calculus). In his Proofs and History of Math classes, we did things that we are still doing now in Real Analysis and Topology. He is a great teacher!! However, he's not for everyone.

Ever seen the original nutty professor? This is him without the miracle potion! He is smart as hell but I think that is what makes him so hard. He think we know just as much as he does

You simply MUST see this guy in person! ...Sam Brooks is the very person that Gary Lawson had in mind when he did many of his "Far Side" cartoons. This guy is a real character! Anyone who reads this really needs to take the time to sit through even one of his lectures. ...No offence Sam!

Hes a pretty good teacher, and one of the best at calc 2 from what Ive heard. He gives pretty hard take home parts of test, but they prepare you for the easier in class part. Requires study time, and question asking, can be intimidating to ask questions, but dont mind him he still answers them. Final wasnt too bad either just like others.

Best calc 2 teacher at u of m. Explains all the material in an easy to understand way. Take home part of the tests can be hard. Good thing is, once you finish them you will be ready for the test. Tests actually test if you learned how to work the types problems, no trick questions.Highly recommended

A good teacher. The course is really boring though. He covers a lot of material and proofs that never come up on the assignments or tests. Try to find someone with old tests, they are easy but you need to know what to study. They tend to be straight off the assignments he gives.

Dr. Brooks is a VERY good professor. With the likes of Anita Davis and Dr. Clapsadle, you need a professor who isn't teaching from his/her notes or who isn't extremely difficult as the aforementioned respectively. Contrary to what's been said before, he WILL help you.

Forget about asking questions in class.. skirts around questions when can and lectures 'matter of factly' as if we already know the material. His partial credit is an absolute joke. Get 80-90% of a 2 page proof correct and recieve only 25% of credit - its absurd. Though the tests weren't TOO hard.

VERY hard to follow in class.when u ask a ? he laughs at u as if u were an idiot for asking. Then he gives an answer thats equally confusing.good stuff though:He doesn't normally collect homework or take attendance and there are only 5 tests *including the final* and he lets u drop the worst.

This teacher acts irritated when students ask questions. He gives vague answers to the ones that he actually does answer. Students wrote letters to the head of the department after having him for Trig. Not many in class were able to make higher than C-.

Assumed that you already had all the information for the course. Spent all Class on an example that had nothing to do with how to do the problems.(proof-head) Not a teacher for Engineers or other real world folks. SouthWest has the class and it transfers.

Extremely poor teaching style - doesn't know the meaning of "partial credit". I've had 75% percent of a quiz grade counted off because I overlooked a single minus sign in the 10 minutes we had to take the quiz. Take *anyone* else before him.

He knows his stuff, that's for sure. Maybe he's a little too much into it. Not really sure that Knuth is right for this class. Anyway, he taught me how to start thinking again! :-)

C'mon guys, he's a good teacher! He knows his stuff (unlike some others), he's enthusiastic about the subject, and he always helps when you come to his office with questions. It's just a difficult subject, hard for many to understand.

ehh..I agree with many of the previous comments. Tended to act like we all had math degrees or should know all of this stuff already. Fairly picky when grading. Would grin or chuckle when you asked questions he thought were weird - Made asking Q's hard.
