This class is by no means easy but if you must take it do yourself the favor of taking it with Dr. Colgate. He is without a doubt the most inspirational professor I have ever had in all my years in college. Excellent individual, unquestionably wise, a pleasure to have as a professor

Comment:

Colgate is an amazing professor. His class is not structured like most UF classes where the student memorizes and regurgitates on the test. Colgate has the ability to make the student learn the material instead of purely memorizing which is important for high-level chemistry classes. The class is hard (what did you expect?) but the tests are fair.

Having taken this course years ago and seeing the average rating, I felt compelled to write. He was an excellent professor who knew the material quite well At times Prof. Colgate spoke on the inaccuracies of introductory science classes delving into advanced topics. This might have thrown a few people off but not the ones interested in science.

This teacher really grows on you. Have a different outlook on chemistry that makes total sense. Extremely funny if you find quotes like "P-waddin" "By Golly", "Hot Dam*", etc funny. Extremely helpful and friendly. Does not teach from the book. His tests come solely from the notes, so all you have to study is the notes. Great teacher!

Doesn't use book, but gives clear notes on overhead, writes what u need to know clearly w/stars etc. & test is straight from notes. You have to learn to think like him, & material is so hard anyway. But not bad, I guessfor chem.Kinda funny, swears alot

More than half of the class dorps him, and his lectures make no sense. All he does is derive formulas. He does give you a lot of extra credit and I would get a tutor if you had him to help understand the material. He should teacha higher level.

Go to lecture and take notes; you'll be fine. Easy grader. He doesn't teach from the book, which is refreshing. If you don't go to class, though, you're Screwed, capital S. Focuses on the science fundamentals. It's not chem like you've had before.
