He definitely makes you work hard for the course, but you learn a lot and he is always willing to help. Our entire grade was based on one paper we did in sections he revised for us throughout the semester. I learned a lot, I would definitely take his course again. Stay on top of the readings so you don't fall behind.

Heilman is a GREAT prof but there's a lot of work! his exams are T/F, define, & short answer. 4 assignments (1-2 pgs), 2-3 "pop" quizzes (announces a day before), 2 presentations, a debate that the whole class participates in, and LOTS of readings. Take good notes, do readings &you'll do fine. He responds to emails quickly if u have questions.

This class encourages me to be up-to-date w current events involving the three Abrahamic faith fundamentalist groups. There is a lot o reading simply because it is a senior seminar class, but there is only one paper required to work on throughout the class. Professor Heilman is very helpful. He spends time going through the paper w his students.

Professor Heilman is a tough teacher, he expects A LOT from his students. There is a lot of work in this class! LOTS of reading and the midterm and final are extremely difficult. But, if you are willing to put the work in and come to class you will learn more than any other class. He knows everything there is to know on the topic! I loved him!

Honestly, I did not think he was so bad. He's clear on what he wants, it's a hard class but you do learn a lot. Professor Heilman knows the topic very well and is willing to help you. It's a lot of work but I would say it's worth it.

This is a hard course but very informative. If you're willing to do the work, you'll come out informed and really able to make sense out of religious fundamentalism

If you are looking for an easy breezy class this is NOT the class for you. But if you are looking to learn about modern phenomenon with Dr Heilman than Fundamentalism is def where you want to be. He is VERY passionate about the topic and knows his stuff. He's very clear about what he expects. He may u put in the effort...then you'll do just fine

I'm a sociology minor so I had to take this class w/him.It really sucked I ended up w/ this nightmare prof.I did the readings. But his grading policy was unclear. He had a TA grade our assignments.Despite doing all the work,I still got a C. In all my other soc.classes I have gotten A's &B+'s.So that def.shows that its not the students,it's the prof.

Worst prof. I've ever had!The articles were interesting. It was the format of his test that was impossible. You would think that by doing the hw & class partcipation will count for something, but nope I still ended up getting a C.And I'm an A student, so obv. it was his class that sucked.Avoid him at any cost,he will really drop your GPA.

Last time I checked 101's are not Grad classes. He teaches it like one. No textbook, just dense readings which are extremely boring. Attendance not mandatory. Pop quizes are ok. Participate a lot in class and make sure he knows your name. I got an A but I definitly shouldn't have. I would definitly recommend for Sociology majors but if not DONT TAK

REALLY Bad...unless u devote ur life to his subject u wont pass...the readings got longer and longer as the class progressed..from 8 to whoppin 30-something pg thing that doesnt make sense until he explains it in class. U gotta buy his book which by the way is non-returnable. And just when u think ur going to do ok, he slams u with pop quizzes.

If wisdom is what you desire, then it is of my opinion that this class is for you. If money is what you desire- go somewhere else. If you do decide to take the class- be careful to filter everything through you're own intellect and not take everything he says at face value. The grade is low and the work is much- but so is the reward.
