Easiest A of my life. I wrote 3 exams for his class without quoting a single quote from any of the books we read in class and I still got all A's on them. Attendance is not mandatory. Funny and respectful. 10/10

very good professor! and Maio is an awesome person :) I felt so bad for always being so bored and depressed in his class. An easy A class if you show up and write the 2 assigned poem projects.

Just write dude. Grading is based on 5 poems, 1 short story and 10% participation. He grades easy and gives lots of time. If you want an easy A class, this is it. No tests, little content, notes unnecessary and you can afford to ditch some(most) classes. Personality-wise--he's fun, witty, even if it comes out a little drab. Just write dude.

Professor Maio is a great teacher. He is very lenient and his class was chill. He can be sometimes funny! Sometimes the class would make me sleep... but overall good class and teacher for a GE course! take him!! assignments are based off two projects. you pretty much write poems for them

Comment:
Professor Maio grounds the readings (short stories and novels) in history and has interesting arguments to make about them too. At least in my session, class lost steam towards the end of the semester. Became boring and repetitive. Still a cool guy; no homework or final, just some take home essays.

Maio is an excellent, easy to talk to professor. He has that laid back conversational lecture style most days, but he knows what he's talking about! I will be taking him again in my academic career, no doubt. He's a breath of fresh air to your schedule. I promise.

Maio is a great Professor. Would defiantly take him again, which I am next semester! I was lucky enough to have him for two classes this semester. If you have a chance to take him, then do it! He's pretty funny and always has a fun way of lecturing. As for this class, it's fairly chill and super easy to pass. The workshops really help your writing!

Can't express how much I loved this class. Writing isn't my best subject but Prof Maio made his class so engaging and fun that it motivates you. He's a great guy, jokes around with you and gets to know you well and gives great feedback on your work and sees the potential in everyone. Poems and short stories is basically the class. MUST TAKE IMO.

Phenomenal professor; one of the best at SJSU. One take-home test, four metrical poems, one narrative, and one critique . Absolutely recommend for anyone looking to fulfill a category C. Professor Maio truly cares for his students and seeks to provide a cultivating classroom environment that supports the development of his students.

He's great. Because its a beginning poetry class, he grades you on effort, so just try. Easy easy class. barely any assignments. Dont go to lectures, he just reads and dissects poems which he doesnt test you on. dont buy the books except for his book. The other stories are so old and famous like Poe that you can find them online

He definitely knows his stuff! A wonderful class. He can go on a bit which makes it boring. But if you attend all the classes it makes the assignments really easy. He will say he will give back your work next week but it'll be 5 weeks trust me. Would take again in a heartbeat.

A really easy class. All you gotta do is put in the work to write the poems and prose and you're pretty much set for an A so long as you follow his critiques after the rough draft. His lectures often revolve around him talking about a certain story and analyzing what makes it good. It can be pretty boring since he does all the talking.

It's the first time this class has ever been taught, and I believe he made it a success. It was not only fun, but insightful to the business side of creative writing and extremely useful for getting meaningful critiques on your work. If you want to be a professional creative writer, take this class with Maio.

Knows the material he's teaching. You could do well on your own with interpretation of the text, but you'll want to listen closely to what he says. He tends to repeat himself, and though it gets boring, he's repeating the important points that will be on the exams.

Professor Maio is really into formal poetry writing. Before, I wasn't very interested in writing in formal poetry, but now, I am really good at writing sonnets. The class is really easy and I like workshoping poems in the round circle. Lots of helpful feedback on your work!
