Sam is such an icon, truly. He astounds me by his stubborn ability to continue to teach AND commute back to NYC despite his disabilities and age. A lot of people judge him fast by his dated sense of humor and his strange policies, but he's a taste that's worth is to acquire. Give him a chance and he's the nicest, most knowledgable professor.

Sam is one of the most knowledgeable scholars I've come across in my years of learning. His teaching is definitely not for everyone (his humor, participation rules, etc), but he is a respectable wise man and you should at least give him some props for that. He is full of random pieces of knowledge and is truly passionate about what he is teaching.

Take a Latin course with Sam before it's too late, it'll enrich yourself more than you think. Sam is demanding and learning how to cope with it will serve you well for all the other classes you take. It is long, it is hard, but if it were easy everyone would do it. He knows Latin and Greek like he grew up there. He's very interested in his students

You'd have to go back in time hundreds if not thousands of years to find another teacher like him. Yes, his teaching isn't for everyone; everyone doesn't want to hear what he has to say because it's not useful ($) for most people. But this guy is the most knowledgeable man I've ever met.
