Dr. Newell is awesome. She is very helpful, willing to answer any questions you may have, and very personable. Her exams are a little tricky because it's mostly interpreting graphs and things like that, but they aren't "unfair" in any way. This was her final semester and I am extremely happy that I got to take Ecology with her.

To sum up the whole entire class in just a few words, the tests will screw you. You can study all night but it will not save you. You can go to her class and you will not comprehend her. She has no apparent teaching style other than powerpoints that she copies right out of the book. Save your GPA and take a different class.

Nice lady but very boring. Puts powerpoint slides on the P-drive. HW & NY times = 75 points. Lab = 125 points. Exams = 50 points. Same thing every day... blah. Easy Class.

Very fair class. NYTimes makes for a sure 50 points. She provides a study guide which covers more material than you will encounter on the exams, but if you use it along with the power point presentations she delivers in class and sends to your email, you're sure to do well on the exams. Focus on power points and notes!

Had her for lab. She's a very nice lady, and is extremely helpful. Overall, the class wasn't too hard. It was sometimes boring, but you'll have that with bio sometimes. You can tell she's doing what she loves to do. You do everything with a lab group, so it makes it easier, and more fun. Take her if you have the chance to.

super boring class. test are extremly difficult. gives a study guide for every test. if you pay attention and do the study guide you should get a low B or C on the test. you also do new york times articles...almost guaranteed to get all points for them. as long as you get the nyt points, pass the tests and do good in lab should get a B.

drop the class. shes a horrible teacher. she is very good at biology and loves it, but she doesnt know how to teach it in a way that students can understand it. Your probably going to fail, the tests are very hard.

Pretty difficult class. Very boring and hard to stay focused. Once a week or so there are New York Times science articles in which you answer questions to and she grades them pretty hard. Test are very difficult and she covers alot of material thats not on the test. Would not recomend her to anyone who isn;t in love with Biology

She is the worst professor ever.She is no help.when you go to er during office hours she jus gives you the answer sheet to the test you probably failed an tell you to figure it out yourself. her lectures are boring nd confusing. and she have favorites so if you do take her you better sit in the front and pray she notice you.i do not recommend. RUN!

Dr. Newell does get a bad rap on here. She does innodate you with information and her tests are hard. However, she does give you a study guide for the tests and she has a review session before each exam and goes over the study guide. You just need to show her that you are making an effort and she will help.

Nice woman but keeps her distance from the students. Seems to pick favorites and is difficult to read. Readings are long and boring but the journals are graded fairly. She never makes her expectations clear. If you need Science Core, take Butler!

This class was one of the most annoying ones I've ever taken. It is hard to pay attention to her because she is very boring. Plus, when she writes on the board, it is hard to see because it is so dirty. She has study sessions for her tests, but they don't help much. Don't take her for lab either.
