Incredibly passionate and enthusiastic to a fault. Common for her to start bouncing off walls during lectures. Amusing to behold, but can be exhausting. Takes no prisoners when it comes to grading. EXTREMELY fastidious, austere, and unforgiving. Doesn't care about your problems. Frustratingly out of touch with the stresses of college student life.

She's nice enough, and passionate about literature, but the entire class was more or less listening to her talk. It's possible to get a good grade, but she's very picky about (IMO) insignificant things. The plus side is that there is very little homework.

She is overly enthusiastic. She goes on tangents and we'd spend weeks on the same half of a book. Really hard to be interested b/c of this. Contradicts herself when grading. She doesn't leave time for students to speak. I'll have my hand raised for 10 minutes and never get called on, which is ironic because she hounds you about participation.

Content and subject felt like I had already learned it all in high school. Doesn't give back grades or let students know where they stand. Doesn't use educat. Doesn't respect students opinions. Grades extremely tough and even if you meet all of her criteria will still fail you for not giving her answers. Lectures were irrelevant and immature.

She's a great professor. Wants specific things so pay close attention her detailed handouts. I went to her office hours for clarification and she was very helpful.

She says she wants student's inputs and discussion, but she doesn't give us a chance to speak. She is extremely long winded, and finds symbolism where there is little to none. She is a very hard grader, and she is more concerned with formatting and structure than ideas.

When you raise your hand to talk there is a minimum of five minutes before she calls on you. She never stops talking to let you talk. She is a REALLY tough grader.

For the most part this class was ok, but don't be fooled; its harder than it may seem at first. Really watch out on the final! She has a tendency to get off topic quite a bit as well. Overall she's nice, but she can be rather difficult to follow.

Super enthusiastic about literature. Tests can be pretty difficult since there's so much detail that you need. Papers aren't so bad, she gives you a broad topic to go on and let's you do your own thing. If you ever get confused on something she is very willing to help out and clear up any confusion

You can do well all semester, but there's a "test," not exam, at the end that could kill you. This test is not over the entire semester, but only over the last two weeks or so. If you fail the test, you fail the class. Everyone has a bad day, but if it's that day, you're screwed. nice person, but being reported by several students.

The papers she assigned could have a very wide topic and be hard to write on. However she always offered re writes and gave you lots of good constructive criticism. Her energy could be distracting at times but could be entertaining - depended on the day. She is really nice and helpful

While she has good intentions and is extremely passionate about the subject, her lectures are spacey and tend to go off subject..every lecture. Unless you are very passionate about comprehending ancient works of literature, I don't reccommend this class.

Meh. Not the best professor I've ever had at Northern but I've endured far worse. She's nice enough and seemed to always bring an energetic and optimistic attitude to class. However, it was difficult at times to figure out exactly what she wanted on an assignment. I would make sure to ask lots of questions seeing as how she has issues with clarity.

Sandy is one of the best teachers at NMU. I think her techniques are really misunderstood. It IS possible to get an A in her class! You will have to work hard to master her papers but the trade off is that you barely read anything. She makes learning worthwhile, you're not going to forget her or what you learned in this class. :)

Simply Awful. Her grading is incomprehensible and her lectures are dull. She contradicts herself in her own marks and gives silly and counterproductive assignments. I don't know why so many people find her "energy" funny. It was a big distraction for me. Stay away if you still want to love literature when you're done.

I have her for both EN 211 and EN 282 and I LOVE her classes. EN 211 has a lot of writing assignments, but it's a writing class, so what do you expect. Even if you don't do well on her papers, she gives multiple opportunities to revise them and ask for help in order to get full credit. Very energetic.

She's a great person but if you don't do EXACTLY what she says you will get a bad grade. I have gotten C's on many an assignment from her for not answering one question in her assignments. Seriously don't take her if you're expecting a good grade for less than your best work.

Why do people say she's stupid when they're the ones getting bad grades? I don't get it! She's energetic and fun. She tells us why we're learning how to think more critically and helps us get better at it. Does everyone expect to go to college and not learn anything or find it challenging?
