I took her class a few semester ago. She's ok... don't really learn anything and we write essays (around 5 total, varying length) and waste time listening to her opinions about historical topics. Glad I'm not a history major :) I have no clue why this instructor is getting extremely high marks. I guess they have the mistaken "impression" that th

Amazing teaching style and the readings are all pretty interesting, especially the novels. She doesn;t grade easy, because you do have to come up with your own ideas and theories on the topics. I would seriously recommend taking her class before you graduate!

I can honestly say that she is my favorite teacher. She is incredibly intelligent and if you are interested in American social or cultural history you should take as many classes with her as possible. Good class format: no tests, four, five page papers a semester. Two thumbs up.

She is soo nice and can be very interesting (sometimes she does tangent off course). She knows the material and is willing to help. Sort of reminds me of a nice old grandma. My only complaint is that there is quite a bit of work (which I don't mind), but I felt she graded a bit too harshly (I thought I did some very fine work but she gave me a B+)

Professor Elbert is one of the few professors from my undergrad years that really left an impression. Yeah, so I'm a grad student in history, so I already have an interest, but she can truly make anything interesting. Even better, rather than make you read boring texts, she uses literature from the time period being studied, mostly novels.

If you are a History or Eng major take this class! Professor Elbert is very inspiring! There is a lot of reading, but that is the whole course. There isn't much work besides that! Professor Elbert is very sweet and very interested in helping her students out. She makes the class as easy as possible! I am taking another class with her next semester!

I took Nature and Culture and I was stunned by how boring this professor is. She does not use a microphone, one can barely hear her. No one does the readings in her class and class discussions were pitiful at best. If you're looking to be intellectually stimulated, do NOT take this class.

I am totally in love with this teacher. Two sets of essays a semester- topics handed out before hand, so don't be worried by the # of books. Very (very) interesting. Just make sure you have a good TA and everything will be hunky dory.

Elbert may grade easy, but that's not the only reason one should take her courses or major in history. If that's why you're taking her, and not because of her brilliant mind, then you're nothing but a moron.
